RALEIGH, NC – Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that forward Andrej Nestrasil will miss the remainder of the 2015-16 season.
Nestrasil, 25, suffered a fractured vertebra in Carolina’s game at Toronto on Feb. 25, when he sustained a hit and fell awkwardly into the boards. The Prague native posted NHL career-highs this season in games played (55), goals (9), assists (14) and points (23), and had earned 14 points (4g, 10a) in Carolina’s 20 games from Jan. 8-Feb. 23, prior to being injured. Nestrasil (6’3”, 200 lbs.) is in his second season with Carolina after being claimed on waivers from Detroit on Nov. 20, 2014. He has scored 16 goals and earned 27 assists (43 points) in 108 NHL games with the Red Wings and Hurricanes. Detroit drafted Nestrasil in the third round, 75th overall, in the 2009 NHL Draft.
