In part, news staff at CDN papers jealous of attention sports got, found it demeaning to be compared in same breath. Snobs who liked arts.

Then rushed to big sports stories like Blue Jays or Olympics when they thought it trendy. Hipsters trying to surf wave then abandon it .

True, sports didn’t generate ad sales like cars, financial. But drove daily sales, kept masthead in view. Geniuses in suits threw it away.

Still biz model for local newspaper/ TV station working its home turf. Tragedy to see withering of great locals to prop up unsustainable pap
