I like the guy, but that was overboard.

I’ve been more neutral re: Reaves, though he crosses the line
with a hits sometimes, because he’s a huge, fairly fast player and
it can be hard not to be physically explosive just the way he’s built.

But these past two games with Suter and now Graves show both that the
officials are really losing control of a lot of these games. And that Reaves has apparently gotten the message he can do pretty much anything. He clearly has no respect for his opponents.

I don’t expect Parros to do much because he’s a clown.
And the people behind him only want these laughably narrow interpretations of
illegal hits/play. Like: you had to do that exact same prohibited thing multiple times recently and been suspended for it. Unless you’re Nazem Kadri or someone else who on rare occasions we’ll apply a different set of standards to.

Parros might give him a game and they’ll probably laugh about it over wings and beers in a couple weeks.

Reeves should’ve Already been Suspended for Cross-Checking the Minnesota Wild player Head first into the goal post in game 7 of the last series….

lefty30 makes some excellent points.

cut to the chase, forget the league, what about the NHLPA?
i’m waiting for his peer group to rein him in.

I’ve seen a few more columnists raise this sort of question
re: the NHLPA. But there truly hasn’t been much focus on why
exactly they’ve bargained either intentionally or by omission
to try and ensure max latitude for players to serially behave really flagrantly
re: the most dangerous head shots and intent to injure “non-hockey” plays.

We all accept I think that there is going to be some rough stuff behind plays
and after whistles. We love a physical, emotional, competitive sport and intense rivalries.

But it’s crazy how for example officials will often immediately smother two equal willing combatants in a fight if ones helmet comes off. But way way after a whistle they’ll often just stand there and watch or act like it’s a normal scrum when Wilson or Reaves goes nuts and basically acts like they’re trying to send an opponent who is in a defenseless position to the hospital - just goes on and on.

The announcers during Reaves neck-twist, slam, knee on neck, grinding face of a prone opponent were unbelievable, too. They acted like it was kind of whimsical entertainment and kept questioning whether Graves was actually hurt. On and on about how “well, you ought to let sleeping dogs lie” blaming the whole thing on Colorado. One of them kept giddily repeating “Kevin Bieksa said!” like that was some sort of definitive judgment re: all matters NHL.

I did notice a couple shifts before the incident in question that Graves was in peoples faces and scrumming it up and possibly taunting Vegas. I made the comment “he has a punchable face” and sure enough word must have gone around Vegas’s bench. While nobody should get seriously injured for being a dick you should be aware it can happen.

In other words…. It didn’t surprise me when I saw who it was.
