via the YouTube page of TSN,
After Connor McDavid voiced his displeasure post-game Tuesday night about Zach Hyman’s third period goal being disallowed after a lengthy review determined Leon Draisaitl was offside, TSN Hockey analyst Martin Biron gives his thoughts on if the NHL's offside review system is broken.
Offside reviews annoy me. If it's too close to call in real time, its not a big enough deal to matter. I know, that one time there was a really egregious non-call. But a play like that is such a rare occurrence, I just don't care and its not worth all the other delays and reviews.
why is Biron yelling? good lord dude, you can just talk.
All video review should be 30 seconds. If it was too close to figure out in 30 seconds (ie, that one badly missed offside call 7 years ago), call on the ice stands.
They don't HAVE to get the call right. The most important thing is to put an entertaining product on the ice. Standing around for 6 or 15 or whatever minutes does nobody any good.
Naturally, ppl would still go all Zapruder on every call and dispute every replay, but (looks around) that's what's happening now anyway.
The nfl has gone to the extreme of trying to get every call right. It's not a perfect world but they are trying to create a perfectly called game.
👍👍
I have to wonder how many egregious offsides calls have been missed by the line judges? To me it seems, like too few to even worry about. I don't think a couple inches really gives the offense any distinct advantage.
Personally, I want the offside challenge gone but if they insist on keeping it, they should be able to make a decision within 1 minute or the call on the ice stands.
Next up we can talk about how ridiculous the goalie interference challenge is. This one isn't so much that a challenge isn't important but more about how the officials are very inconsistent on what is and what isn't interference.
