It look to me Zibanejad was looking for trouble and to draw a penalty. It looks like it back fired.

That's probably the softest play which took place in the NHL this week.

Man, I really can't stand Laviolette.

The boarding at the end of the game was more egregious.

from Larry Brooks of the New York Post,

This was a reminder of just how fragile the pursuit of the Stanley Cup can become. This was a reminder that it is impossible to bubble wrap the Rangers until the playoffs begin. This was a reminder that calamity is just around every corner, whether via slap shot that becomes friendly fire or a mid-ice collision creating collateral damage.

The Rangers seem to have avoided catastrophe on the Island on Tuesday night with Mika Zibanejad apparently having escaped a concussion after going splat! face first down on the ice, where he remained in a prone position for a scary minute after a mid-ice collision with Adam Pelech at 8:51 of the third period that was either accidental or disguised to look that way.

Head coach Peter Laviolette, enraged and perhaps shaken when he convened his postgame press briefing, left no doubt that he believed Pelechs hit on Zibanejad as No. 93 steamed across the ice to the bench for a change was intentional. That would have been a polite term for it.

Peter is just doing some 'referee-baiting' in advance of the game on Saturday.  I got to meet him years ago when he was the Isles coach - a RARE good move by Mike Milbury - to give Peter his first shot.  A good guy.

Back to the incident - it is clear that neither Pelech nor Mika were looking at each other when Mika ran into Pelech.  Sam Rosen, on the NYR broadcast - said he thought it was an accident during the game.     The Dobson hit was borderline dangerous.  But it would not have impacted the game's final result.  Personally,  I would love to see Dobson hit more fiercely.  At 23/24 <?> years old - he is growing into his frame and should grow a meaner streak.  It might buy him more space on the ice.

The Isles never had the puck in period 2 and 3....after OWNING the first.   That said - the team bended and did not break.   Varly was outstanding.   But the Mika hit - was just more excuses for the Rag$ and their fans.  Of ALL PEOPLE, a recent concussion victim like Pelech, is not going headhunting.
