Its kind of brilliant. Many of the guys who play OT have no idea what they're doing on the PK. Certainly makes OT a little interesting again.

But I wonder if this is the moment that defines the next evolution of OT. Do teams start OT with defensive guys who can win possession now? Gain possession, immediately switch up and go on the man advantage, or fail possession but at least you have competent defenders on the ice?

Really at this pint might as well just be done with the OT format entirely. Give each team a 2 min PP and see if one team can win it. 

It was interesting watching this take place in real-time. We immediately knew it was a disaster for the Preds as the guys who got caught out there were not particularly good defensive players and see little if any PK time.

I didn't know the 0 point rule existed though. That made it a bigger risk but one Minnesota was smart to take. Even coming away with 2 points their battle to make the playoffs is a steep one.

It will be interesting to see other teams try this strategy. Done at the right moment it can be a huge advantage.
