via the NJD,

The New Jersey Devils announced today that the team has acquired forward Tyler Toffoli in a trade with the Calgary Flames in exchange for forward Yegor Sharangovich and a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft (pick acquired in Damon Severson trade to Columbus, originally Calgary's selection acquired by Columbus via Seattle, 80th overall). Sharangovich was set to become a restricted free agent on July 1. Toffoli is entering the final year of a four-year contract signed with Montreal, carrying a $4,250,000 cap hit ($3,500,000 cash due in 2023-24). The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.

Toffoli, 31, joins New Jersey after he totaled a career-high 73 points (34g-39a) with Calgary last season, with both his goal and point totals leading the Flames in 2022-23. The 6'0", 205lbs. forward's goal, assist and power-play goals (10) for the season all set new career highs. Additionally, his 10 power-play tallies ranked second on Calgary last season, while his four game-winning goals were tied for first.

The righthanded shot has totaled 466 career points (227g-239a) in 733 regular-season contests. Toffoli started his career with Los Angeles and spent parts of eight seasons with the Kings from 2012-13 to 2019-20 (515 GP). He then spent part of one season with Vancouver in 2019-20 (10 GP) and two campaigns with Montreal in 2020-21 and 2021-22 (89 GP). Toffoli was traded to Calgary on Feb. 14, 2022, and recorded 96 points (45g-51a) in 119 career regular-season games with the Flames.

The Scarborough, Ontario native has appeared in seven different postseasons and helped Los Angeles win its second Stanley Cup championship in 2014. His 14 points (7g-7a) in the 2013-14 Stanley Cup Playoffs led all NHL rookie skaters and marked a rookie franchise record for Los Angeles in a single postseason. The veteran forward also appeared in his second Stanley Cup final with Montreal in 2020-21, and his 14 points (5g-9a) ranked second on the Canadiens in the playoffs. Overall, Toffoli has totaled 44 points (18g-26a) in 88 career postseason contests.

Born on April 24, 1992, Los Angeles selected Toffoli in the second round, 47th overall, in the 2010 NHL Draft. He represented Canada at the international level winning a Gold Medal at the 2014-15 International Ice Hockey Federation's (IIHF) World Championship (WC). At the 2023 World Championship, Toffoli captained Canada to a Gold Medal contributing six points (3g-3a) in 10 games played.

Before his professional experience, Toffoli spent four seasons playing in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Ottawa 67's from 2008-09 to 2011-12, and his 52 goals scored in 2011-12 ranked first for all OHL skaters.

Toffoli's career plus-79 plus/minus rating with Los Angeles ranks seventh all-time in the franchise's history, and his plus-35 rating ranked first in the League for the 2015-16 campaign. He was also the first player in NHL history to earn a hat-trick in an outdoor game when the Kings defeated Colorado 3-1 in the 2020 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series.

Sharangovich, 25, was New Jersey's fifth-round selection and 141st overall in the 2018 NHL Draft. In three seasons from 2020-21 to 2022-23, he appeared in 205 games scoring 53 goals and 53 assists for 106 points while registering 43 penalty minutes. Sharangovich skated in three Stanley Cup Playoff games for the Devils.

Darn, I was hoping the Wings would take a swing at Sharangovich.
