This one baffles me. "The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed forward Tyler Bertuzzi to a one-year, $5.5 million contract. The contract features a no-movement clause and a maximum signing bonus, according to TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston."

Ukey

Nobody could match/beat that--including the Wings?

I thought he was asking for tons of money? Boston has to be losing their mind, lol.

Maybe he didn't want to come back to Detroit. It is possible. Maybe he got a chubby to play with Austin Mathews.

TML release

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed forward Tyler Bertuzzi to a one-year contract worth $5.5 million.

Bertuzzi, 28, skated in 29 games with the Detroit Red Wings last season before being acquired by the Boston Bruins. With the Bruins, Bertuzzi recorded 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in 21 regular season games and added 10 points (five goals, five assists) in seven playoff games. The Sudbury, Ontario native has recorded 218 points (92 goals, 126 points) in 326 regular season games split between Detroit and Boston.

Bertuzzi was originally selected by Detroit in the second round (58th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.

No doubt playing with the Leafs and their still pretty loaded lineup was enticing. But given his injury history he is taking a big gamble with this term, in my opinion.

First off called this yesterday on here.

Other part is that Nylander appears to be on the marketbut there were no takers. That may force the Leafs to trade Marner.

As far as Beruzzis contract

How long was lil Bert on LTIR last year? There is a rule for vet players (>400 NHL games) and contracts with bonuses. If he was on LTIR for 100 days or more last year then a 1 year contract can be structured with bonuses such that it wont hit the Leafs cap until 24-25 (see Max Paciorettys contract)

as far as the number. Hes betting on an increased cap next season not limiting his market like this year. That and a long playoff run driving up his value. Playing on a line with JT or Matthews cant hurt it as hell rack up the points. As far as injuries, that is a risk given his history, age, and playing style.

So basically, Bert replaced the Eddie Shack clone Michael Bunting and his 23 goals the team will lose from him signing elsewhere--if Bert can stay healthy, which is a big if. Team still lost Kerfoot, O'Reilly, Schenn , Egball, Holl, Acciari, and added the defensive sieve Klingberg and the pugilist Reaves to protect Knies.

Good on ya Bert!  Make some bank for a year and show your worthy when the Cap go's up....or not

Wingding

Bert will likely have a great year , and still be on the golf course by mid- May.

HippyDave

WTF Bert?!?  This is particularly hard to stomach.

VPalmer

If all these reports are true, he just wanted to play for a contender
