NEW YORK (April 17, 2024) – The National Hockey League today announced the dates, starting times and national television coverage for the Eastern Conference Game 1s of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs First Round, which begins Saturday, April 20. The complete First Round schedule will be announced when available. All times listed are ET and subject to change.

is this ending a pretty good argument for a play-in? these teams all had flaws and you can say 82 games decided it, but damn. more revenue, too. dunno what i think.
It was a pretty good argument against play-ins or expansion of the playoffs. All those teams battling for the final spots were the definition of mediocre. You basically had a mini-tournament during the last week of the season anyway.
Now imagine if they did have two play-in matchups (single game) in the East/West
Pittsburgh at Tampa
Detroit at Washington
Minnesota at Nashville
St. Louis at LA or Vegas
It seems really unfair for Tampa and Nashville to play 82 games, have 10 more points than their opponent and have to play a single elimination game. Make it more than a single game and they'll have a huge disadvantage in subsequent rounds.
I hope they never go for play-in or expanded playoffs. I don't care if there are 48 teams. I don't think more than 16 should compete for the Cup. Regular season has to mean something.
No, to me it's the argument AGAINST a play in. These teams all had their chances to get in and found ways to f it up during the regular season. Why keep giving chances.
I will be doing what every true Red Wing fan will be doing:
cheering against the Leafs.

On Dec. 28 1979 the Leafs traded my favorite player - Lanny McDonald - to the Colorado Rockies. I threw out everything I owned that had a Toronto Maple Leaf logo on it and swore I would never cheer for them again. I became a Detroit Red Wings fan that day and I so despise the Leafs still to this day that I cannot wait to see them get eliminated every year.
