“The National Hockey League is thrilled to have the best and brightest of our game hosted at the spectacular UBS Arena for the 2026 NHL All-Star Weekend,’’ NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. “We have been looking forward to UBS Arena playing host to one of our major League events since before construction of this wonderful arena began. We have every confidence that the Islanders organization, led by Scott Malkin and Jon Ledecky, will deliver a celebration that will make the greater New York region and the NHL proud.”
Figures - we get an All Star game where many players who are Olympic bound will have sudden "injuries' and we have slugs playing. But that said - people will love the new arena. it's fabulous - and the new retail village, hotel and the outdoor skating rink/park area will be well received. Lou will have traded all of our draft picks so we will have 90 year old guys playing by then :) I was at the last one on Long Island in 1983 - I remember Laura Branigan singing the national anthem (we had her before the Blues did!) and Gretz got 3 or 4 goals as I recall.
Little Caesars Arena ground was broken in Sep 2014. Construction was completed in Sept 2017.
Awfully curious that the new arena has yet to host an All Star game. Almost like the ownership failed to do something that they promised and the league doesn't want the publicity surrounding that failed promise.
The last All Star game in Detroit had Gordie Howe in it. So the whole we rotate it excuse doesn't exactly fly either.
