I was fortunate to attend, or maybe not, The Big House New Years Day game. A week before the game it was forecast to be in the 20s. Thats good, I thought, freezing but not too cold. Well, game day it was 9 degrees F at 1 pm face-off, with heavy snow all day as the temperature dropped to about 2F by evening. Every stoppage in play a team of skaters with shovels took to the ice to try to remove the inches of snow rapidly accumulating. I had two heavy green wool Army blankets, sitting on one and the other draped myself and a couple of nearby fans. Snow piled on top of our hut. When Abdelkader scored a goal we were torn whether to stand and cheer, which we did, a pile of snow falling off us onto our seats.
Late in the day after the game the cloud cover was so thick with a featureless sky that I had a difficult time determining which direction was north back to the car parked at a lumber yard.
I guess its something Im glad I did once. Maybe.
I am surprised the Penguins are not playing the Penguins - that would be so appealing to Bettman to double his pleasure of his favorite team!
