from Luke Fox of Sportsnet,
A quick mix of the things we gleaned from the week of hockey, serious and less so, and rolling four lines deep....
A great get by The Cam & Strick Podcast this week as Andy Strickland conducts the first thorough interview with exiled and decorated coach Joel Quenneville about his involvement in the Chicago Blackhawks' egregious blind eye to video coach Brad Aldrich's alleged sexual abuse of Kyle Beach in 2010.
I recommend watching the interview in full and drawing your own conclusions:
Quenneville does takes some ownership for turning a blind eye and assuming upper management (a group of we'll-handle-it execs he labeled "The Firm") would deal with the situation.
"I definitely didn't handle it properly. I definitely should've handled it differently. I should've ... confront(ed) Brad from what I heard, or follow up and ask more questions to get to the seriousness of it, and then report it correctly and make sure there's follow-up off of that, whether it was the head of HR or top management, making sure they follow through on the whole process," Quenneville says, in part.
more on Quenneville, watch the interview too plus other hockey topics...
from Mark Lazerus of The Athletic,
And so here is Quenneville, the second-winningest coach in NHL history. He admits he did wrong, but he also clearly still feels wronged. Hes put in long hours educating himself on workplace culture and power dynamics and he said hes spoken with Beach, but he also still sometimes uses the careless, callous words of someone who hasnt learned.
Quenneville wants a second chance. He wants to chase 1,000 wins and Scotty Bowman. And its left for NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and the hockey world to figure out how much hes really changed, and to work out for themselves how much he really deserves reinstatement. What wins the internal debate? Emotion? Empathy? Or mere resignation?

You shouldnt have to be educated on not letting a member of your staff rape your players. Just the fact that he feels "wronged" tells me he has no remorse for the role he played as Aldrich's direct supervisor.
The only thing I really feel bad about regarding Quenville is that he bore the bulk of the long term punishment while the Hawks ownership got a slap on the wrist.
And when Wirtz passed away he was treated as a saint. You can't make this crap up.
👍
Quenneville definitely screwed up. The thing it bothers me is if was a star hockey player or any pro star athlete they would have been back in their respected league much quicker. I am not saying covering something up but being or potentially being apart of the horrible act.Kobe, Ray Lewis,.(Maybe even one Patrick Kane).and on and on. Quenneville was not directly involved.
Covering up was disgusting because the value of winning a Stanley Cup was more important than a person's life. Sad either way.
They should have been called out for the purposeful tanking last year and then been blessed with Bedard. They should have been prevented the #1 pick from Gary.
