- Why it was time for Mike Babcock to leave the Red Wings: In exit interviews in different seasons before this one, both Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk told management they would not re-sign with the Wings if Babcock was still the coach. Datsyuk and Zetterberg each played 10 seasons for the current Leafs coach.

- After Morgan Rielly, do the Leafs have a defenceman who is a keeper going forward? You can argue that with Auston Matthews, Willie Nylander, James van Riemsdyk, Mitch Marner, and Nazem Kadri they have at least five forwards to look to the future with, maybe more. The back end, not so much.

- Is Blake Wheeler too thin-skinned to be the right choice as captain of the Winnipeg Jets? Those what-about-me types don’t tend to make the best of captains. Emerging star Mark Scheifele would have been my choice.
