As another week in the NHL goes by, each division leader remains the same with the Florida Panthers leading the Atlantic Division, the Washington Capitals leading the Metropolitan, the Dallas Stars leading the Central Division and the entire NHL in points and the Los Angeles Kings leading the Pacific.
Unfortunately for the New York Rangers, they’re in the midst of a three-game span where they face three of the four division leaders. This past Saturday, the Rangers lost to the Florida Panthers by a final score of 3-0, giving the Panthers their ninth straight win. This week, the Rangers face the Dallas Stars on January 5th and the Washington Capitals on January 9th. These two games, which are both being played at Madison Square Garden, are two of the top-five most expensive NHL tickets on the secondary market this week.
With information provided by TiqIQ.com, below is the complete top-five list.
1/9/2016 | New York Rangers vs. Washington Capitals | Madison Square Garden | Average Price: $403.14 | Get-in Price: $156
1/8/2016 | Chicago Blackhawks vs. Buffalo Sabres | United Center | Average Price: $283.92 | Get-in Price: $131 | Replica Championship Pendant Giveaway
1/5/2016 | New York Rangers vs. Dallas Stars | Madison Square Garden | Average Price: $274.36 | Get-in Price: $97
1/9/2016 | Montreal Canadiens vs. Pittsburgh Penguins | Centre Bell | Average Price: $257.81 | Get-in Price: $96
1/10/2016 | Chicago Blackhawks vs. Colorado Avalanche | United Center | Average Price: $247.53 | Get-in Price: $104 | Toothbrush Holder Giveaway
Rightfully so, a division matchup against the Capitals outdoes the Rangers’ matchup against the Stars and has an average ticket price difference of around $125. The Rangers trail the Capitals by 13 points and if they’re serious about a general turnaround or even competing for the Metropolitan title, every head-to-head matchup is magnified for the rest of the season.
The Chicago Blackhawks have two contests in the top five as well, and have giveaway each night. On January 8th, the Blackhawks face the Sabres with an average ticket price of $283.92 with a get-in price of $131 and fans entering the United Center will receive a replica championship pendant. Two nights later, the Blackhawks have a less enticing giveaway, but the average ticket price against the Avalanche is less than $250 with a get-in price of $104.
Out-of-town Blackhawks fans looking to be part of the championship pendant giveaway can use Hipmunk.com to book a flight to Chicago for a trip to the United Center. Complete the travel logistics through Hipmunk, which has hotels in Chicago starting from $71 per night.
To complete the top-five list, the Canadiens try to reclaim their first place spot in the Atlantic with a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on January 9th, which has an average ticket price of $257.81 with a get-in price of $96.
