I understand the IIHF's basic issue here. But this is like colleges banning conservative speakers from appearing on their campuses because fringe groups on the left threaten violence. There has to be some way that everyone can play (or be heard) without being "cancelled" by the mere threat of violence.

its not just security, they probably dont want to deal with protests, all that stuff as well. youd need a small army to make this completely safe, and if someone did get hurt, theyd look even worse than some people seem to think they do now.

holik needs to cool it and think this through. the risk isnt worth a junior hockey tournament.

"...they probably dont want to deal with protests, all that stuff as well"

That makes it even worse. Oh no, there'll be people protesting so lets punish a hockey team that hasn't done anything wrong. That's exactly the goal (no pun intended) of the "fringe left" whose approach is: "Shut these people down or we'll make your life miserable."

And the governing body (or college) rewards them for their threats of violence by doing what they want. At some point, people of good will have to stand up and say, "We're not going to pander to your hate filled threats." When that happens remains to be seen.

thats very idealistic until your teenage son is killed because some org insisted on having a speech or a hockey tournament. i also do t see how ideology comes into it. hate groups got a lot of drag queen story hours canceled with threats. dont act like its one side only when thats clearly nonsense.

Chet

also, i didnt see anyone talking about genocide as a reason for this except holik. what is he thinking, talking like that?
