GOLDEN KNIGHTS PICK UP NHL-BEST 18TH HOME WIN
William Karlsson
scored the go-ahead goal with 11:02 remaining in regulation to help the Western Conference-leading Golden Knights boost their record to 29-10-2 (60 points) this season, including a 14-1-1 mark in their last 16 contests.

* Vegas extended its home point streak to 10 games (9-0-1) – including seven straight victories – and improved to 18-2-1 (37 points) at T-Mobile Arena overall, the most home wins in the NHL this season. Only three teams in League history have recorded more victories on home ice in their entire inaugural campaign than the Golden Knights, who have 20 games remaining at T-Mobile Arena this season.

OTHER DIVISION-LEADING CLUBS EXTEND HOME WIN STREAKS
The Metropolitan Division-leading Capitals (26-13-3, 55 points) and Central Division-leading Jets (25-11-7, 57 points) each secured victories to extend lengthy home win streaks:

* Nicklas Backstrom (1-1—2) scored with 43 seconds remaining in overtime to power the Capitals to their ninth straight victory at Capital One Arena dating to Dec. 2. Washington improved to 17-5-0 (34 points) at home overall in 2017-18, trailing only Vegas for the most such wins this season.

* The Capitals’ nine-game home win streak is the longest in the NHL this season, eclipsing eight-game runs by the Golden Knights (Oct. 15 – Nov. 24), Rangers (Oct. 26 – Nov. 26) and Lightning (Nov. 22 – Dec. 28). Washington is the only team without a home loss of any kind since the beginning of December.

* Alex Ovechkin (1-1—2) scored his League-leading 27th goal of 2017-18 (tied w/ Nikita Kucherov) to move within three of becoming the third player in NHL history to reach the 30-goal mark in each of his first 13 NHL seasons; Mike Gartner (15 seasons) and Wayne Gretzky (13 seasons) achieved the feat after both making their League debuts in 1979-80.

* Connor Hellebuyck turned aside 31 of 32 shots he faced to backstop the Jets to their fifth consecutive win at Bell MTS Place.

* Winnipeg improved to 16-3-1 (33 points) at home overall in 2017-18 and have outscored opponents 82-50 in those games. The Jets’ +32 goal differential on home ice paces the NHL this season (tied w/ VGK), while their 82 home goals trail only the Avalanche (84) for the League lead.

* Hellebuyck improved to 23-4-6 this season (2.36 GAA, .923 SV%, 3 SO), including a 7-0-2 clip in his last nine appearances. He leads all goaltenders with 16 home wins in 2017-18 (16-1-1; 2.17 GAA, .928 SV%, 2 SO).

LEAGUE-LEADING LIGHTNING REACH 30-WIN MARK
Nikita Kucherov
scored his NHL-leading 27th goal of the season (tied w/ Alex Ovechkin) to help Tampa Bay (30-9-3, 63 points) become the first team to reach the 30-win mark this season. The League-leading Lightning established a franchise record for fewest games to record 30 wins in a season (42 GP), eclipsing the mark of 48 contests set in 2014-15 (30-14-4, 64 points).

MALKIN SCORES 12TH CAREER OVERTIME GOAL
Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin (2-1—3) scored his 12th career regular-season overtime goal (all w/ PIT) to move into sole possession of first place on the franchise’s all-time list.

NHL ANNOUNCES HEAD COACHES FOR 2018 HONDA NHL ALL-STAR GAME
Jon Cooper
of the Tampa Bay Lightning (Atlantic), Peter Laviolette of the Nashville Predators (Central), Barry Trotz of the Washington Capitals(Metropolitan) and Gerard Gallant of the Vegas Golden Knights (Pacific) will serve as the head coaches for the 2018 Honda NHL All-Star Weekend, which will be held Jan. 28-29 at Amalie Arena in Tampa.

* Under the All-Star selection process, the head coach of the team with the highest points percentage (points earned divided by total possible points) in each of the four divisions through games of Saturday, Jan. 6 – the halfway point of the regular season – will guide the respective All-Star rosters.
