GOLDEN KNIGHTS CONTINUE RECORD-SETTING INAUGURAL SEASON

Malcolm Subban made 27 saves to help the Western Conference-leading Golden Knights (24-9-2, 50 points) extend their point streak to 10 games (9-0-1), including five consecutive wins. Vegas established an NHL record for the longest point streak by a team in its inaugural season, eclipsing the mark of nine games set by the Panthers in 1993-94 (5-0-4).

* Elias adds that the Golden Knights (35 GP) established an NHL record for fewest games to reach 50 points by a team in its inaugural season, besting the mark of 40 contests set by the Rangers in 1926-27 (22-12-6, 50 points).

* Subban boosted his record to 9-2-0 this season (2.18 GAA, .926 SV%), including wins in each of his last five outings (2.11 GAA, .928 SV%).

OTHER GOALTENDERS EXTEND RECENT STRINGS OF SUCCESS

Goaltenders Cory Schneider (NJD), Connor Hellebuyck (WPG), Tuukka Rask (BOS), Ondrej Pavelec (NYR) and Cam Ward (CAR) also continued recent strings of success:

* Schneider made 31 saves to help the Metropolitan Division-leading Devils extend their season-high point streak to seven contests (6-0-1), including five straight wins. Schneider pushed his personal win streak to five games dating to Dec. 15 (1.97 GAA, .935 SV%).

* Hellebuyck made 22 saves to backstop the Jets to a 13-3-1 (27 points) record at Bell MTS Place in 2017-18. Hellebuyck moved to 19-4-5 this season (2.46 GAA, .919 SV%, 2 SO), including a 13-1-1 record on home ice (2.20 GAA, .924 SV%, 2 SO).

* Rask made 25 saves to help the Bruins extend their win streak to a season-high five games. Rask, who was named the NHL’s “First Star” for the week ending Dec. 24, improved to 9-0-1 in his last 10 decisions dating to Nov. 29 (1.41 GAA, .948 SV%, 1 SO).

* Pavelec made 30 saves through 65 minutes and denied both shootout attempts to record his first shutout of the season and backstop the Rangers to a 15-6-3 (33 points) record at Madison Square Garden, tied for the most home wins in the NHL this season (w/ TBL and VGK). Pavelec has turned aside 115 of 119 shots he has faced over his last three appearances (1.26 GAA, .966 SV%, 1 SO).

* Ward made 23 saves to lift the Hurricanes to their fifth straight home win. Ward improved to 9-2-1 this season (2.65 GAA, .914 SV%), including wins in each of his last five appearances (1.95 GAA, .928 SV%).

BAILEY, BARZAL LEAD ISLANDERS TO COMEBACK WIN

Josh Bailey (1-1—2) tied the game with 1:09 remaining in regulation and Mathew Barzal scored at 1:08 of overtime to power the Islanders to a 12-3-3 (27 points) record at Barclays Center this season.

* Bailey (11-37—48) pushed his point streak to nine games (6-11—17) and trails only Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov (24-27—51) for the NHL scoring lead this season. Linemate John Tavares (21-27—48) collected two assists to extend his point streak to eight contests (4-13—17), keeping pace with Bailey.

* Barzal stretched his point streak to five contests (5-3—8), including scoring the game-winning goal in each of his last two outings. Barzal leads all rookies with 13-23—36 in 2017-18 (37 GP).
