LEAGUE BEGINS REVEAL OF 100 GREATEST NHL PLAYERS . . .
The NHL launched its year-long Centennial Celebration on Sunday by revealing the names of 33 legends, predominantly from the League’s first 50 years (1917-1966), who have been voted among the 100 Greatest NHL Players presented by Molson Canadian.

The 33 players were honored prior to the 2017 Scotiabank NHL Centennial Classic in Toronto between the Maple Leafs and Red Wings. The remaining 67 players will be recognized on Jan. 27 in Los Angeles as part of a special event at the 2017 Honda NHL All-Star Weekend.

A Blue Ribbon Panel, comprised of 58 individuals representing more than 1,800 years of experience in the game, chose the 100 Greatest NHL Players presented by Molson Canadian. Every member of the panel voted for 100 players, with each vote worth one point. Voting was conducted last July and August and the results were tabulated by the accounting firm of EY.

. . . CONTINUES CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION AT ROSE PARADE
The NHL will continue its Centennial Celebration today at the 128th Rose Parade presented by Honda, with a Centennial-themed float “A Century of Greatness (1917-2017).”

Featuring floral replicas of a 55-foot long hockey rink, the official logos of the 30 NHL teams and the official NHL Centennial logo, the float will commemorate 100 years of hockey along the renowned parade route in Pasadena.

BLUES FACE BLACKHAWKS IN 2017 BRIDGESTONE NHL WINTER CLASSIC
The Blues will become the 23rd team to participate in a regular-season outdoor NHL game when they face the rival Blackhawks in the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Busch Stadium. St. Louis and Chicago have competed in the same division every season since 1970-71, tied with Boston and Buffalo for the longest active such streak in the League. * This marks the fourth of five contests between the Blues and Blackhawks this season (STL: 1-1-1, CHI: 2-1-0). Chicago (146-113-45) boasts a 337-294 all-time points advantage in the 304 regular-season meetings between these clubs (STL: 123-133-48).

* The Blues and Blackhawks have met 12 total times in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with Chicago owning an 8-4 series edge. St. Louis, however, earned a seven-game victory in the opening round of last year’s postseason (3-2 W in Game 7).

MATTHEWS, ROOKIES LIFT MAPLE LEAFS IN CLASSIC START TO CENTENNIAL
The Red Wings erased a 4-1 deficit in the third period – including the tying goal with 1.1 seconds remaining in regulation – but Auston Matthews (2-0—2) scored at 3:40 of overtime to power the Maple Leafs to a victory in the 2017 Scotiabank NHL Centennial Classic at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto, their fifth straight win overall.

* Matthews (20-12—32 in 36 GP), who registered his first career overtime goal, became the first rookie to reach the 20-goal milestone this season – and also tied Kings forward Jeff Carter (37 GP) for second place in the entire League.

* Matthews now paces rookies in goals (20), points (32) and game-winning goals (t-3) this season. He has 6-3—9 during a six-game point streak and 14-5—19 in 17 outings dating to Nov. 23.

* Rookies accounted for four of Toronto’s five goals, with Connor Brown (1-2—3) and Mitchell Marner providing the other tallies. The Maple Leafs boast three of the top four rookie scorers in the NHL this season: Matthews (1st; 20-12—32), Marner (3rd; 9-18—27) and William Nylander (4th; 8-17—25), who picked up one assist on Sunday.
