OVERTIME, COMEBACKS DOMINATE TUESDAY’S GAMES
Of the eight games contested on Tuesday:

* Seven were tied or within one goal during the third period (OTT-NYR, EDM-WSH, PIT-PHI, NSH-MTL, MIN-DET, VAN-TBL, BOS-DAL).

* Five went past regulation – three were decided in overtime (OTT-NYR, PIT-PHI, NSH-MTL), while two required a shootout (EDM-WSH, MIN-DET).

* Five clubs overcame a deficit – at any point in the game – to earn a victory (NYR, EDM, PHI, MTL, BOS).

* Of those five teams, four rallied from third-period deficits to pick up wins (NYR, EDM, PHI, MTL). The Oilers overcame a two-goal deficit in the final 4:11 of regulation, while the Wild rallied from a three-goal deficit in the third period before ultimately falling in a shootout.

BATTLE OF THE ATLANTIC GETS TIGHTER
The Lightning, Red Wings, Canadiens and Bruins all won on Tuesday to continue the close battle in the Atlantic Division:

* Alex Killorn (2-0—2) notched his first career multi-goal game, including the winning marker, to power the Lightning to their eighth consecutive victory at Amalie Arena dating to Dec. 11. The club’s eight straight home wins match a franchise record achieved three previous times, most recently March 17 – April 8, 2006. Two other teams have posted eight-game winning streaks at home this season: the Blackhawks (Nov. 9 – Dec. 21) and Sharks (Nov. 29 – Dec. 20).

* The Wild overcame a three-goal deficit in the third period, but Pavel Datsyuk and Gustav Nyquist scored in the shootout to lead the Red Wings to their season-high fifth consecutive victory. After recording 3-1—4 on Sunday, Henrik Zetterberg collected three assists for his second straight game of at least three points. Elias says he has accomplished that feat two other times in his career: Jan. 11-13, 2007 (0-6—6) and Feb. 14-17, 2007 (4-3—7).

* Down 1-0 after 40 minutes, Alex Galchenyuk (1-1—2) potted the tying goal early in the third period and P.K. Subban (1-1—2) scored with 51.1 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Canadiens to their second straight win. Per Elias, Subban’s four career overtime goals are the most by a defenseman in Canadiens history, one ahead of Andrei Markov and Sheldon Souray. Saku Koivu owns the overall franchise record with seven such goals.

* Trailing 1-0 late in the second period, the Bruins recorded three unanswered goals to pick up their sixth victory in their past seven contests. Gregory Campbell scored the decisive tally, snapping a nine-game drought. Dougie Hamilton added 1-1—2, while Tuukka Rask made 36 saves, including 16 in the third period. The Bruins collected at least one point for the 10th time in their last 11 outings dating to Dec. 29 (7-1-3).

HAGELIN, RANGERS ROLL INTO ALL-STAR BREAK . . .
Facing a 2-1 deficit after 40 minutes, Chris Kreider evened the game early in the third period and Carl Hagelin found the back of the net at 2:55 of overtime to propel the Rangers to their third consecutive victory.

* At 27-13-4 (58 points), the Rangers moved one point ahead of the Capitals (24-13-9, 57 points) – who lost in a shootout on Tuesday – for third place in the Metropolitan Division. They also moved within one point of the Penguins (26-12-7, 59 points) – who lost in overtime on Tuesday – for second place in the division.

* The Rangers improved to 20-6-0 in their last 26 games dating to Nov. 19, including a 16-3-0 mark in their past 19 outings. The club last won at least 16 contests over a 19-game stretch from Oct. 30 – Dec. 15, 1993 (17-1-2).

* Hagelin (1-1—2) recorded his first career overtime goal and first multi-point performance since March 24, 2014 vs. PHX (0-2—2).

* Derek Stepan earned the primary assist on the game-winning goal. He ranks fourth on the team with 8-24—32 in 31 contests this season despite missing 13 games due to injury.

* Henrik Lundqvist made 33 saves, including 14 in the third period and overtime, to improve to 8-1-1 with a 1.48 goals-against average, .956 save percentage and two shutouts when posting at least 30 stops this season.

* The Rangers defeated the Senators at Madison Square Garden for the first time (in the regular season) since Oct. 3, 2009, snapping a seven-game skid (0-5-2).

. . . OILERS RALLY TO KEEP CAPITALS AT BAY
Down 4-2 with less than five minutes remaining in regulation, Teddy Purcell and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored to even the game and Purcell then potted the decisive marker in the shootout to lift the Oilers to their second straight win.

* Via Elias, the Oilers won a game when trailing by multiple goals in the final five minutes of the third period for the first time since Jan. 24, 2008, when Jarret Stoll scored at 18:37 and 19:08 of the final frame and Shawn Horcoff netted the decisive tally in the shootout of a 4-3 victory at FLA.

* Elias also says the Oilers are the fourth team this season to erase a multi-goal deficit in the final five minutes of regulation en route to securing a win. The others: the Red Wings on Oct. 23 vs. PIT (trailed by 2 at 17:20 of 3rd period, won 4-3 in OT); the Flames on Nov. 22 vs. NJD (trailed by 2 at 17:37 of 3rd period, won 5-4 in SO); and the Flames again on Dec. 22 at LAK (trailed by 2 at 17:47 of 3rd period, won 4-3 in OT).

* Nugent-Hopkins (1-1—2) posted his fourth multi-point game of the season and second in his past three outings (also Jan. 15 at TBL: 0-2—2). He shares the team lead with 12-17—29 in 45 appearances (tied with Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall).

* The Oilers picked up their second win in their last 10 trips to Verizon Center dating to Nov. 8, 1997 (2-7-1).

GIROUX PROPELS FLYERS PAST PENGUINS
Trailing 2-1 early in the third period, Chris VandeVelde notched the tying goal and Claude Giroux scored at 3:57 of overtime to lead the Flyers to their sixth consecutive victory over the Penguins dating to Nov. 13, 2013.

* Giroux notched his fifth career overtime goal and second this season (also Oct. 18 at DAL). His five career overtime goals are tied for second in Flyers history, one behind record-holder Simon Gagne.

* Giroux has 2-1—3 during a three-game point streak and 3-5—8 in his past nine contests dating to Jan. 6. With 16-35—51 in 47 overall appearances this season, he shares third in the NHL in both assists and points.

* Linemate Jakub Voracek earned the primary assist on Giroux’s overtime winner. He paces the League with 39 helpers and 56 points in 48 outings this season.

* VandeVelde found the back of the net for the third straight game (3-0—3). He had four career goals in 81 contests prior to this stretch.

KANE NETS MILESTONE GOAL, POWERS BLACKHAWKS
Patrick Kane registered 1-2—3, including his 200th NHL goal, to help the Blackhawks snap a two-game skid and improve to 5-1-1 in their last seven meetings with the Coyotes dating to Jan. 20, 2013.

* At 29-15-2 (60 points), the Blackhawks moved within two points of the idle Blues (29-13-4, 62 points) for second place in the Central Division. St. Louis, however, owns the ROW tiebreaker (STL: 25, CHI: 24).

* Kane posted his seventh three-point game of the season and first since Jan. 8 at MIN (1-2—3). Per Elias, only Sidney Crosby (9) has recorded more three-point games in 2014-15.

* Kane is tied for third in the NHL with 22-29—51 in 46 total games this season. He also now has 200-344—544 in his career (561 GP), including 7-23—30 vs. ARI (25 GP).

* Andrew Shaw (2-0—2) snapped an eight-game scoring drought with his fifth career multi-goal performance and first since March 6, 2014 vs. CBJ (2-0—2). He also notched his eighth career game-winning goal and second of the season (also Nov. 28 at ANA).

* Teuvo Teravainen (1-1—2), Bryan Bickell (0-2—2), Brad Richards (0-2—2) and Patrick Sharp (0-2—2) also recorded multiple points.

* Jonathan Toews added his 14th goal of the season to extend his point streak to six games (1-7—8).

The Predators lost consecutive games for the first time this season . . . Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin (2-0—2) recorded his seventh multi-goal game of 2014-15, including his League-leading 12th power-play marker (which shattered the net cam).
