GIROUX’S OT WINNER CAPS IMPROBABLE STADIUM SERIES COMEBACK

Trailing 3-1 in the third period, the Flyers scored twice in the final 3:04 of regulation – including a game-tying goal by Jakub Voracek (1-2—3) with 20 seconds remaining in the third period – before captain Claude Giroux (1-1—2) capped the comeback with an overtime winner.

* The Flyers became the fifth team to stage a multi-goal comeback and win an outdoor game and the first to do so with a third-period rally. The others: Red Wings on Jan. 1, 2009 (6-4 W at CHI), Rangers on Jan. 2, 2012 (3-2 W at PHI), Rangers on Jan. 26, 2014 (7-3 W at NJD) and Senators on March 2, 2014 (4-2 W at VAN).

* Overall, 13 of the League’s 27 regular-season outdoor games have featured a comeback win of any kind (48.1%).

* The Flyers scored a tying goal in the final 30 seconds of regulation and won a regular-season game for the eighth time in franchise history and first since March 31, 2013 (5-4 OT W vs. WSH), when Kimmo Timonen tied the contest at 19:50 of the third period and Ruslan Fedotenko scored the overtime winner.

* There have been 109 multi-goal comeback wins this season, the most-ever in a campaign through games played Feb. 23 and second-most in a season through 955 contests behind only 1985-86 (123). The Flyers became the third team to overcome a multi-goal deficit in the final five minutes of regulation and win this season, joining the Sabres on Nov. 10, 2018 (6-5 OT W vs. VAN) and Flames on Dec. 12, 2018 (4-3 SO W vs. PHI).

* A career Flyer, Giroux was skating in his 800th regular-season game. He trails only Bobby Clarke (1,144) and Bill Barber (903) for the most games played in franchise history. Giroux also added to his franchise record with his 11th career overtime tally.

* James van Riemsdyk (1-0—1), who scored to start the third period rally, was appearing in his sixth regular-season outdoor game to tie Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Jonathan Toews for the most in NHL history.

* Making his first start since Nov. 15, Philadelphia goaltender Brian Elliott made 40 saves in victory. That was one save shy of the outdoor game record of 41, set by Toronto's Jonathan Bernier in a 3-2 shootout win over Detroit in the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.

CROSBY CONTINUES TO PRODUCE VERSUS FLYERS

Sidney Crosby (1-1—2) recorded multiple points against the Flyers for the 32nd time in his career. He improved his totals against Philadelphia to 41-58—99 in 66 regular-season games, his second-highest total against any one franchise (36-77—113 in 66 GP vs. NYI). Only four players in NHL history have recorded more points against the Flyers – three of whom have also played for the Penguins (Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr and Bryan Trottier).

STADIUM SERIES QUICK HITS

* A sellout crowd of 69,620 fans marked the fifth-largest crowd for an NHL game. The League’s 27 regular-season outdoor games have drawn a total attendance of 1,459,359 – an average of 54,050 per game.

* Home clubs improved to 11-13-3 in the League’s 27 regular-season outdoor games. Road teams fell to 16-8-3.

* Six of the NHL’s 27 regular-season outdoor games have required overtime, with four decided in the five-minute extra session and two determined in a shootout.

* The 80 shots on goal (PIT: 43, PHI: 37) tied an outdoor game mark for most shots by both teams (DET: 43, CHI: 37, 2009 WC at Wrigley Field in Chicago).

* ICYMI: Grittyrappelled from the rafters of Lincoln Financial Field as part of an opening ceremony that included a tribute to Rocky and the teams entering the ice walking down a replica of the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps.

MAPLE LEAFS ALSO STAGE A DRAMATIC COMEBACK

The Maple Leafs scored six unanswered goals to overcome a 3-0 deficit and improve to 7-0-0 in their last seven games against the Canadiens dating to Oct. 14, 2017 (MTL: 0-4-3), Toronto’s second-longest regular-season win streak against Montreal behind only a 12-game run from Dec. 9, 1939 – Jan. 23, 1941 (MTL: 0-12-0). Toronto moved to 37-20-4 (78 points) this season and occupies third place in the Atlantic Division standings, three points back of Boston (36-17-9, 81 points).

* Mitch Marner registered two helpers to reach and eclipse the 50-assist and 70-point marks this season, respectively (21-50—71 in 61 GP). He became the first Maple Leafs player to record 50 or more assists in a season since Tomas Kaberle in 2005-06 (9-58—67 in 82 GP) and the first with at least 70 points in a campaign since Phil Kessel in 2013-14 (37-43—80 in 82 GP).

* Marner also eclipsed 200 career regular-season NHL points on Saturday (62-139—201 in 220 GP). Among players to begin their NHL career with Toronto, only three required fewer games to record their first 200 career regular-season points all with the franchise: Charlie Conacher on March 3, 1934 (197 GP), Syl Apps on Feb. 8, 1941 (200 GP) and Gordie Drillon on March 15, 1941 (215 GP).

* Morgan Rielly collected two assists to reach the 60-point mark for the first time in his NHL career (15-45—60 in 61 GP). He became the seventh different defenseman in franchise history to record 60 or more points in a season and first since 2005-06, when Bryan McCabe (19-49—68 in 73 GP) and Kaberle combined for the feat.

LUONGO TIES BELFOUR FOR THIRD PLACE ON ALL-TIME WINS LIST

Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo made 18 saves to earn the 484th regular-season win of his NHL career and tie Ed Belfour for third place on the League’s all-time list.

BLUES, BINNINGTON EXTEND HOME WIN STREAKS

Jordan Binnington made 31 saves through 65 minutes and denied five of six shootout attempts as the Blues improved to 16-3-1 in their last 20 games dating to Jan. 10, including six consecutive home wins. St. Louis moved to 33-23-5 (71 points) overall this season and occupies third place in the Central Division standings.

* Binnington improved to 14-2-1 since making the first start of his NHL career on Jan. 7 (1.58 GAA, .939 SV%, 4 SO), including a 6-0-0 mark at Enterprise Center. He became the sixth goaltender in NHL history to earn wins in each of his first six or more career regular-season home starts.

REINHART (HAT TRICK) HELPS SABRES DEFEAT CAPITALS

Sam Reinhart scored the third hat trick of his NHL career and first since March 31, 2018 (3-0—3 at NSH) to help the Sabres defeat the Capitals. Buffalo improved to 29-24-8 (66 points) this season and are six points outside of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference standings.

* Rasmus Dahlin, who also found the back of the net on Feb. 21 (1-0—1 at TBL), scored his third game-winning goal of the season. Dahlin (born April 13, 2000) became the first 18-year-old defenseman in NHL history to score three game-winning goals in the regular season, eclipsing the previous mark of two set by Phil Housley in 1982-83 (w/ BUF) and matched by Aaron Ekblad in 2014-15 (w/ FLA).

HURRICANES, AVALANCHE BLANK OPPONENTS TO MOVE INTO WILD CARD SPOTS

The Hurricanes (33-23-6, 72 points) and Avalanche (27-24-11, 65 points) each secured shutout wins on Saturday to move into the final Wild Card spots in their respective conference:

* Curtis McElhinney turned aside all 24 shots he faced to improve to 9-2-0 in his last 11 appearances dating to Dec. 31, 2018 (2.18 GAA, .925 SV%, 2 SO) and help the Hurricanes move to 8-1-1 in their last 10 road games dating to Jan. 20. Carolina moved past Pittsburgh (32-22-8, 72 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

* Philipp Grubauer made 38 saves and Nathan MacKinnon (2-1—3) reached the 80-point mark for the second time in as many seasons (32-48—80 in 62 GP) as the Avalanche blanked the Predators to extend their win streak to four games. Colorado leapfrogged idle Minnesota (29-27-6, 64 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference standings.

BOBROVSKY RECORDS SECOND SHUTOUT IN AS MANY DAYS

Sergei Bobrovsky turned aside all 26 shots he faced to record his second straight shutout (also Feb. 22 at OTT) and backstop Columbus past San Jose. The Blue Jackets improved to 35-23-3 (73 points) this season and occupy third place in the Metropolitan Division standings, two points behind the second-place Capitals (34-21-7, 75 points) and six back of the first-place Islanders (36-18-7, 79 points) – who also secured a shutout win on Saturday.

COYOTES TO RETIRE DOAN’S No. 19 AT GILA RIVER ARENA

The Coyotes (28-28-5, 61 points) will retire former captain Shane Doan’s No. 19 in a pre-game ceremony at Gila River Arena prior to their game against the Jets (37-20-4, 78 points). Doan, who spent his entire 21-season NHL career with the Coyotes/Jets franchise, is set to become the first player to have his number retired by the club.

* Doan is the franchise’s all-time leader in regular-season goals (402), assists (570), points (972) and games played (1,540). Among players to appear in at least one game with the original Winnipeg Jets (regular season and/or playoffs), he was the last to play in the NHL; his final game was on April 8, 2017, outlasting Teemu Selanne (May 16, 2014), Nikolai Khabibulin (Nov. 16, 2013), Kris Draper (May 12, 2011) and Keith Tkachuk(April 9, 2010).
