POINT CLIMBS GOALS LIST AFTER WILD WEEKEND ACROSS THE LEAGUE

Brayden Point scored twice to move into a share of third in the League with 17 goals this season as the goal-scoring race continues to evolve following a high-scoring weekend. He is one of eight players with at least 15 goals this season - only one campaign since 1998-99 has seen more through 361 games (2005-06: 9).

* Seven of the eight players noted above have yet to celebrate their 30th birthday, with seven-time goals leader Alex Ovechkin, 33, the only one to do so. Four of those players are 23 or younger, including 20-year-old League-leader Patrik Laine.

* Since 2013-14, the eight players noted above have combined for only 12 top-10 finishes in goals. Ovechkin has accounted for four of those, winning the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy four times in that span.

* Aside from Ovechkin, only two players from that group have finished top-three in goals at any point in their careers: Laine in 2017-18 (second) andJohn Tavares in 2012-13 (third).

* Three of the eight players - Jeff Skinner, Point and Cam Atkinson - are already more than half way to their 2017-18 goal total. Atkinson and Skinner are the only two from the group of eight that didn’t tally at least 30 goals last season - they each finished with 24 after setting career highs in 2016-17 (Skinner: 37; Atkinson: 35).

* Point recorded at least three points in a game for the fifth time this season, the 10th multi-point performance for Tampa Bay’s second-highest scorer (17-14—31 in 24 GP). Only two players have recorded more than ten multi-point games in 2018-19: Nathan MacKinnon (12) and Mikko Rantanen (12).

FIRST-PLACE BATTLE WAGES ON BETWEEN PREDATORS, LIGHTNING

The Predators (17-6-1, 35 points) won to displace the idle Sabres (16-6-2, 34 points) and move back into the top spot in the NHL, holding the tiebreaker with the Lightning (17-6-1, 35 points) - whom they defeated in both head-to-head meetings this season.

* Since the start of 2017-18, the clubs have combined for 197 days as the NHL’s first-place team (Tampa Bay: 137, Nashville: 60) - amounting to 82% of in-season days during that span.

* In 2017-18, Tampa Bay led the League for nearly three-quarters of the season (72%, 134 of 187 days), with Nashville taking over first place for the first time on March 13 before eventually winning its first Presidents’ Trophy. The Predators have led the League for 33 days so far this season, compared to three for the Lightning.

TWO MORE HAT TRICKS SUNDAY BOOSTS TOTAL TO 29 ON SEASON

Seven goals were scored in each game Sunday, with Austin Watson scoring his first career hat trick in Nashville and Dustin Brown posting his fifth career game of at least three goals in Los Angeles.

* Sunday marked the third straight day with at least one such performance, with six total in that span including Patrik Laine’s five-goal showing Saturday. Overall, there have been 29 hat tricks through 361 games in 2018-19, compared to 25 at the same point last season.

* Nashville leads the League with four hat tricks - each tallied by a different skater - while Brown’s hat trick was the first by a Los Angeles player since he scored four goals on April 5, 2018 vs. MIN.

LUFF EXTENDS GOAL STREAK, JOINS ELITE KINGS LIST

* Kings forward Matt Luff scored into an empty net to extend his goal streak to four games, the longest by a Kings rookie since 1986-87 whenJimmy Carson and Luc Robitaille each had longer runs. Rangers forward Filip Chytil holds the longest goal streak by a rookie this season set at five games.

FLAMES NET THREE SHORTHANDED GOALS IN VICTORY

Noah Hanifin and Mark Jankowski each tallied 2-0—2 as the Flames scored six times - including four goals via special teams - to win in Arizona and move into first place in the Pacific Division (14-9-1, 29 points).

* Calgary scored three goals while shorthanded for the third time in franchise history, with two of those tallies coming 24 seconds apart during the third period. It marked the third-fastest pair of shorthanded goals ever by the club.

* Did You Know? The fastest two shorthanded goals in franchise history also are the fastest by a team since the League began tracking the statistic in 1933-34. They came four seconds apart during the final 15 seconds of the third period on Oct. 17, 1989 as the Flames rallied to salvage a point in an 8-8 tie with the Nordiques at Le Colisée.

* Hanifin scored his first two goals in a Flames uniform and his first career multi-goal game (263 GP). In doing so, he joined Al MacInnis and Mark Giordano as the only defensemen in Calgary/Atlanta franchise history to score both a shorthanded goal and power-play goal in the same contest. He also became just the ninth defenseman since 2002-03 to do so.

SNEAK PEEK AT MONDAY’S ACTION

NOTABLE STORYLINES ACROSS THE BOARD ON MONDAY’S SLATE

* Columbus’ Cam Atkinson (9-4—13 in 7 GP) will look to establish a franchise record and become the first NHL player with an eight-game goal streak since 2008-09. Current Red Wings defenseman Mike Green was the last player to do so, scoring in eight straight contests for the Capitalsfrom Jan. 27 - Feb. 14, 2009. Atkinson would become the first NHL forward with a goal in eight or more consecutive team games since 1998-99 (Teemu Selanne and Miroslav Satan).

* Ottawa’s Matt Duchene has registered 6-12—18 of his team-leading 10-19—29 over the course of 12 games in November. There have been ten instances in franchise history of a player recording 20 or more points in a calendar month, with Jason Spezza the last to do so (February 2012: 8-13—21 in 12 GP). Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov, who tallied two assists Sunday, is the only player with more points this month (4-16—20 in 13 GP).

* Florida’s Keith Yandle (736), owner of the League’s longest active “Ironman” streak, aims to tie Jay Bouwmeester (737) for sixth in NHL history for consecutive games played.

* Toronto’s Patrick Marleau, who ranks just behind Yandle with an active streak of 730 consecutive games played, is set to become the 11th player in NHL history to hit the 1,600-games played milestone. Marleau (540-602—1,142), who recorded his 600th assist earlier this season, would become the only active player to achieve the feat.

* Islanders head coach Barry Trotz will face the Capitals for the first time since he led the team to its first Stanley Cup championship in June. Trotz coached four years with Washington, guiding the club to a 205-89-34 record in 328 regular-season games and a 36-27 mark in 63 playoff contests - reaching the postseason in each campaign. Trotz is one of 11 different head coaches in League history to win the Cup and leave the team - for any reason - before the start of the next season. The last to do so before Trotz was Scotty Bowman, who retired after winning with the Red Wings in 2001-02. The last to join another team was Mike Keenan, who took over behind the Blues bench after winning with the Rangers in 1993-94.
