PASTRNAK HELPS BRUINS SNAP MAPLE LEAFS’ ROAD WIN STREAK

In their first meeting since the First Round of the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs, David Pastrnak (3-1—4) factored on four of five goals to help the Bruins snap the Maple Leafs’ season-opening road win streak at six games.

* Pastrnak scored his second hat trick of the season (also 3-0—3 on Oct. 13 vs. DET) and leads the League with 15 goals in 2018-19 (15-6—21 in 16 GP). Only three different players in Bruins franchise history have concluded a season leading the NHL outright in goals: Cooney Weiland(1929-30), Roy Conacher (1938-39) and Phil Esposito (1969-70, 1970-71, 1971-72, 1972-73, 1973-74, 1974-75).

DID YOU KNOW?

Bruins forward David Pastrnak has collected 13-14—27 in 19 career games against Toronto (1.42 P/GP, regular season and playoffs combined). His career points per game average of 1.42 trails only two Bruins players for the highest such total against the Maple Leafs franchise (min. 10 GP): Phil Esposito (1.52) and Jean Ratelle (1.46).

* Pastrnak scored his second career hat trick against Toronto (also 3-3—6 in Game 2 of the 2018 FR). He became the seventh Bruins player to score multiple hat tricks against the Maple Leafs franchise (regular season and playoffs combined), joining Esposito (4x), Bobby Bauer (2x), Herb Cain (2x), Jean-Guy Gendron (2x), Cam Neely (2x) and David Krejci (2x).

FOUR TEAMS OVERCOME MULTI-GOAL THIRD-PERIOD DEFICITS

The Red Wings, Predators, Sabres and Senators each overcame multi-goal deficits in the third period to secure wins on Saturday:

* Anthony Mantha scored twice in the third period to help Detroit erase a 3-1 deficit and Frans Nielsen (0-1—1) recorded his League-best 49th career shootout goal as the Red Wings extended their win streak to three games, overcoming a multi-goal deficit in each contest. Detroit rallied from a multi-goal deficit to win three or more consecutive regular-season games for the first time in franchise history and became the eighth team in NHL history to do so, a feat last achieved by Nashville from Feb. 27 – March 2, 2018.

* Roman Josi (1-1—2) tied the game with 42.5 seconds remaining in regulation and Mattias Ekholm scored the overtime winner as the Predators defeated the Stars and improved to 8-0-0 on the road this season. The Predators became the third team in NHL history to earn wins in each of their first eight or more road games to begin a season, joining the Sabres in 2006-07 (10-0-0) and Devils in 2009-10 (9-0-0).

* Buffalo rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the final 2:27 of regulation and Casey Mittelstadt scored the decisive marker in the shootout as the Sabresdefeated the Canucks and improved to 3-1-0 in their last four games. Buffalo overcame a multi-goal deficit in the final five minutes of regulation and won a regular-season game for the seventh time in franchise history and first since March 24, 2010 (3-2 SO W vs. MTL).

* Trailing 4-2 through 40 minutes, the Senators scored four unanswered goals in the third period to rally past the Eastern Conference-leading Lightning. Ottawa overcame a multi-goal deficit in the third period to win a regular-season game in regulation for the 14th time in franchise history and first since Feb. 27, 2016 (6-4 W at CGY).

NO LEAD IS SAFE

* Five of 11 games contested on Saturday saw a team overcome a multi-goal deficit to win. There have been 43 instances of a team overcoming a multi-goal deficit to win a game in 2018-19, the second-highest such total through the first 252 games of a season in NHL history behind only 1986-87 (48x).

* Two games contested on Saturday saw a team score a tying goal in the final two minutes of regulation. There have been 19 tying goals scored in the final two minutes of regulation in 2018-19, the highest such total through the first 252 games of a season in NHL history.

HOFFMAN, GIROUX CONTINUE TO ROLL

* Panthers forward Mike Hoffman (1-0—1) extended his career-high point streak to 11 games (7-5—12), the longest active run in the NHL. Only one player in franchise history has recorded at least one point in more consecutive team games in a regular season: Pavel Bure from March 10 – April 5, 2000 (12-9—21 in 13 GP).

* Flyers captain Claude Giroux (1-2—3) leads the team with 7-15—22 this season (17 GP), including multiple points in each of his last three games (3-5—8). He recorded his 50th career regular-season game with at least three points (all w/ PHI), trailing only eight players for the most such outings in franchise history.
