PRE-TOURNAMENT GAMES WRAP UP FOR WORLD CUP OF HOCKEY 2016
The pre-tournament exhibitions for the World Cup of Hockey 2016 wrapped up Wednesday with three games:
* Team Russia (1-0-2) took a 2-1 lead midway through the third period courtesy of goals from Alex Ovechkin and Artemi Panarin (1-1—2), but John Tavares tied the game at 13:58 of the frame and Ryan Getzlaf scored at 3:29 of overtime to lift Team Canada (2-1-0) to a win at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh.
* Leon Draisaitl (3-0—3) recorded a hat trick to power Team Europe (1-2-0) to its first win with a 6-2 victory over Team Sweden (1-1-1) at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Three other members of Team Europe registered multiple points: Tomas Tatar (1-1—2), Nino Niederreiter (0-2—2) and Dennis Seidenberg (0-2—2).
* Team North America (2-1-0) notched two goals in less than two minutes to erase a 2-0 deficit midway through the third period, but Tomas Plekanec scored 53 seconds later to propel Team Czech Republic (2-1-0) to a victory in its pre-tournament finale at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh.
