Team sport isn’t about individuals. It isn’t about contracts. It isn’t about trophies and all-star team choices.
It’s about a group of players coming together, working together, playing a system, playing with structure, playing with intensity, working in cohesion with the coaching staff.
Right now, the Maple Leafs are none of those things.

I'm sure I'm being petty, but I absolutely love it that this sanctimonious blowhard's favorite team sucks, and will for the foreseeable future....
Stats are for stars, championships are won in the dressing room, if that place isn't truly right, you don't win imo. I was part of a Canadian College Champion team. Guys from all over played on those teams, went their own ways between games etc, but once they all walked into the arena it was all for one. No one ever spoke of it but I could always see and feel it. I have watched the leafs for many years...they say all the right things but I don't get that "feeling" about them. The culture needs a reset there, maybe that's the fault of the worlds biggest hockey market and every move getting scrutinized to the nth degree. They have lots of talent upfront but continually miss the important part about building from the net out. Get bruised and banged up a little bit, it will hurt only when you lose. 2nd half of the season is coming up and the leafs need to play like they are missing the playoffs, like the wings, their playoffs start now.
I love watching the laffs lose more than anything. I have been a wings fan since 1966 or 67. I hope that we start using a little more youth more in the near future. Personally I want more of Berggren before he gets pissed off and makes it well known he wants out.
Excellent points made about team chemistry, which has been sorely lacking in the laff dressing room for years, and as far as Berggren, I see no impact by Christian Fisher on this team that could easily be added by Berggren in spades.
Enjoyable article by olde Simmons. Someday he should let us know what he really thinks.....
