from Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,

In a statement Friday, Penguins president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas indicated that Guentzel had rehabbed his right ankle for a while. But when the injury didnt respond the way Guentzel hoped, the decision was made for him to have surgery. Dr. Chris Coetzee at Twin Cities Orthopedics performed it.

As Jake continued to increase the intensity of his preparation for the upcoming season, it was apparent that his ankle injury was not resolving in a way that was satisfactory to he or the Penguins, Dubas stated. It was decided that surgery would be the best way to ensure Jake would be at his best in 2023-2024....

On Monday, Guentzel played in Da Beauty League, the popular summer league in his home state of Minnesota. A source told the Post-Gazette on Friday that Guentzel was not injured while participating in the laidback 4-on-4 league.

For what its worth, Guentzel blocked a shot March 22 in a win at Colorado and had his right ankle heavily wrapped in ice after the game. He was a game-time decision the following night. He finished out the season for the Penguins but he opted to not play in the IIHF world championships, prioritizing rest instead.

It is not known if that play was the origin of the injury that required surgery.

And that LTIR space combined with a trade will get them enough to get Karlsson under the cap so they can chase 1 more with that Crosby core

As I said previously, just rearranging the chairs on the Titanic. Hopefully Crybaby's era will be finally coming to an end soon.
