Engvall for 7 years?  He's a 3rd line player.

Mayfield for 7 years? He's a 3rd pair d-man.

Varlamov for 4 years seems like a bit much.

I have no issue with Sorokin for 8 years.

dca nails it. All of these are worth a good chuckle except sorokin. Varlamov gets 4 years as a 34 year old goalie? These are very Holland-esque deals

Fans on the Island like the signings in terms of AAV very much - the term is long.  The Sorokin deal is awesome - He is a special player.  The fact that Mayfield and Varlamov are taking less money to stay on the Island reinforces what I wrote earlier in the week about LI becoming one of the teams that people want to come to and not be on that "10 team no trade list".   Engvall fit in nicely with Brock Nelson and I would say he has upside.

The term is upsetting and was given for two reasons:

* To lower the 2023-24 AAV

* Lou will be 87 years old when Engvall and Mayfield's contract is up and someone else will deal with this.

This said  - rumors here involve DeBrincat for a return of J G  Pageau to OTT along with other considerations.   I will believe it when I see it.

But the key thing is getting Sorokin under contract.   Need to make one or two 'hockey trades' to fill out the roster.   The big problem i see is that we need to have 1 or 2 of our best players on entry level contracts - in order to fill out the team.   We have the potential to have the best goalie tandem in the league.  Varlamov can be run out there for 30-40 games and the team doesn't suffer from a bad backup.   I don't see these players finishing out their contracts.   I want to wait till the other shoe drops before I get all worked up about this!
