Is This the Main Reason Why the Edmonton Oilers Qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2022?

05/03/2022 at 10:30pm EDT

Once again, the Edmonton Oilers have secured a postseason spot for the third consecutive season. Several reasons contributed to the team's success during the season, including the arrival of two outstanding players, the MVP-caliber performance of both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, the effectiveness of the team's special teams, and the team's ability to win games in the last minutes.

McDavid, Draisaitl not resting on All-Star success with Oilers

Following the punching of their ticket, the Oilers will be seeking to cause even more damage than they have in previous seasons and to maintain the winning streak that they have enjoyed as a result of all of these circumstances. Therefore, if you would like to support McDavid and Draisaitl throughout the Stanley Cup, you can do so with these betting sites not on gamstop. With these platforms, you also have the option to wager on multiple teams and players throughout the competition.

The Influence of McDavid and Draisaitl

Like every season before it, there aren't enough positive things to say about the performance of McDavid and Draisaitl. Each and every game, they demonstrate that they are two of the greatest players in the league by finishing at or near the top of the standings. As of now, McDavid has already surpassed his career best in goals for a season (43), and he has matched his career high in points (116), both marks set last season. His field goal percentage is at its lowest level since 2016-17, but he has attempted far more shots than in previous seasons, providing more chances for everyone else on the court. Following back-to-back three-point performances, McDavid has increased his lead in the league's scoring by three points.

With 54 goals and 100 points this season, Draisaitl has become the first player this season to reach the 50-goal mark twice in his career. He is now sitting at 54 goals and 100 points. It should be noted that he was the most recent player to achieve this remarkable accomplishment, which occurred in 2018-19.

Having scored 23 power-play goals in a season, Draisaitl broke the previous mark of 22 held by Wayne Gretzky and Ryan Smyth. Draisaitl also established a new team record for the most power-play goals in a season (20). Additionally, McDavid and Draisaitl are the NHL's top scorers on the power play, with 41 and 39 points each.

Besides dominating in the offensive zone while heading various lines, these players have also shown strong defensive play and efficiency in the faceoff circle throughout the season. When it comes to earning important draws at either end of the ice, possession is essential to success. A faceoff win rate of 54 percent distinguishes McDavid from his peers, and it is the only occasion in his career that he has achieved a win percentage more than 50 percent. Immediately behind him is Draisaitl, who continues to be reliable in the faceoff circle, winning 53.6 percent of his faceoffs this season.
