Is He Right?

Mick is so good on the radio, but hes wasted with all the caller segments. I think interacting with the phone-in callers really brings out the jaded attitude as he invariably straw-mans a discussion at least once per show. That said, I love how he interacts with his scripted guests as he actually respects their conversations.

Hes obviously right about most player interviews before-and-during games. Every now and then you catch an interesting nugget. I know (National) interviewers try to identify chatty players to stick a mic in their faces, but generally its a big waste of time.  (But so is the ASG just because I dont care for it, doesnt mean there isnt a point to it all)

Yes, but usually because most of the media ask useless questions. You ask canned questions, you're going to get canned answers. I've noticed Max Bultman tries to go beyond the surface level with his questions and they sometimes elicit more interesting responses. But that would require actual work and preparation on the reporter's part.

Useless questions are the state of play with the media.   If you hope to get scoops, inside info, be welcomed in a room, and even any interviews for that matter, you need to navigate these waters very carefully. You go in there bull in a China shop critiquing play, calling players out, etc. and don't expect more than 1-2 word answers in interviews, and to be the last to know team info, which leaves you as one of us, an outside mouthpiece offering an outsiders view.

I despise in game interviews, half time interviews with college football coaches trying to get off the field to the locker room to maximize what minimal time they have to make adjustments, intermission interviews with a player who scored a goal in the first period, in game dugout interviews with the pitcher from the previous day, and 82 post-game interviews with the Wings coach and spokesman, whoever he may be.  I will listen to The Mick in post game, and Ozzie or Murph, because they are usually funny and/or insightful.

Yes, the after the game interviews are not necessary. I said this in a post a while back. I am not sure how we got to the point that every game needs a presser afterwards. Save it for the playoffs. A once a week presser should suffice. I would hate to be a player or coach dealing with this BS daily.

The TV voice of the Sharks...

What they say doesnt matter.  Thats a good thing because usually its just a repeat of the same thing he or another player has said before.

TreKronor

It would be kind of fun if the interview changed to ask, "What kind of pre-game rituals do you have?"  "What kind of fuel are you taking in during the intermission?"  "Is there anyone in the locker room who pulled a good prank lately?"

Anything different than the old, "Tell us about how you felt your team performed that period."  "Well you know, we had some good looks, goalie came up big for us with some key saves.  We just gotta buckle down, tighten up defensively, and hope to get a few good looks."

-Sincerely, Every dang interviewee.

Some may remember when Babcock was coach They always interviewed him for 15 seconds just before the start of the third period coming out of the locker room. He always said the same thing.
