Imagine If The Pittsburgh Penguins Were Healthy

10/07/2021 at 7:58am EDT

from Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,

The Penguins have won five Stanley Cups since 1991. They have had at least one of the best players on the planet virtually every year since 1984, from the great Mario Lemieux to Jaromir Jagr to Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. They also have had more than their share of Hall of Famers, like legendary players with names such as Trottier, Mullen, Coffey, Murphy, Francis and Recchi. It has been an amazing ride.

But it could have been so much better....

Would the Penguins have won another Cup if Crosby, Malkin and Letang had been healthy for at least half of the games they missed? I think their chances would have been pretty good.

Where would Crosby rank on the all-time points list if he had played in, say, 100 more games? At the moment, he’s 34th with 1,325 points in 1,039 games, an average of 1.28 points per game. If he had maintained that average in those 100 extra games, he would rank 17th with 1,453 points, just ahead of Bryan Trottier.

I wonder if Crosby and Malkin feel cheated.

How can they not feel cheated?
