NEW YORK (Jan. 5, 2018) – National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman today released the following statement regarding the passing of former NHL referee Bruce Hood:

“For 21 NHL seasons, Bruce Hood brought professionalism and integrity to every game he worked and earned the respect of the players, coaches, general managers – as well as his peers. In addition to his command of the game and his ability to communicate on the ice, Bruce had a characteristic calmness that brought his excellence to the fore when the pressure was greatest.

“We also remember Bruce for all that he gave back to the game away from the rink, inspiring countless young officials to pursue his chosen career.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and his many friends, both in his community and around the hockey world.”
