from Terry Jones of the Edmonton Sun,
Edmonton Oilers general manager Ken Holland didn’t really do anything to write home from Denver about.
No goalie.
One third-pairing defenceman.
One fourth-line forward.
That was it. That was all.
And that hardly sent Oilers fans to the Jasper Avenue parade route to celebrate going forward to the Stanley Cup playoffs despite their recent 12-5-1 run under new head coach Jay Woodcroft, going into last night’s game against the Avalanche in Colorado.
Normally in a situation like the Oilers created for themselves, having put themselves into a playoff position with only the second five-game home stand sweep in more than two decades, a GM would want to make a statement to his team with a move or two.
Did that do it?
Well, give him credit, I guess. Holland did something.
