Carolina Hurricanes Force Game 7

04/22/2019 at 10:13pm EDT

from Sportsnet,

The Carolina Hurricanes have lived to fight another day.

Justin Williams and Co. survived a tense Game 6 to even their first-round series against Williams’ former club at 3-3, forcing a Game 7 against the defending champion Washington Capitals.

Late in the third period of the tilt, Washington appeared to score a game-tying goal with Carolina leading 3-2. A controversial call nullified the goal, however, as it was waved off immediately, keeping Washington down one. Williams scored soon after to extend the Hurricanes’ lead, before a subsequent empty-net tally sealed it.

Alex Ovechkin was tossed from the game by referee Chris Rooney in the final minutes.
