from Jorudan LaBarber of Sabres.com,
Rasmus Dahlin made his feelings about Buffalo clear when asked about the status of his contract at the outset of training camp last month.
“I love the city. I love the team. I love everything,” Dahlin said.
The Sabres cemented his future with the organization on Monday. Dahlin signed an eight-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $11 million, beginning with the 2024-25 season.
Dahlin, 23, joins forwards Tage Thompson and Dylan Cozens and defenseman Mattias Samuelsson – all of whom signed seven-year contracts – as core members of the Sabres who have signed long-term extensions since the start of last season.
Do we now have a comparable for Mo Seider? Dahlin did sign a 3 year bridge deal before this one but I fully expect the Wings to push for 8 year for Seider. Perhaps it doesn't quick reach the heights of Dahlin's deal but I don't think it will be much less.
Seider still has 4 RFA years that would need to be covered and then 4 UFA years in a new 8 year contract. Seider was drafted 6th in 2019 but didn't play in the NHL until '21-22.
Dahlin was drafted 1st in 2018 and began playing in the NHL in '18-'19. Which meant he had 1 RFA year and 7 UFA covered during this contract.
That is why the AAV's won't be comparable.
The thing is, I don't know that Stevie is going to want someone making more than the captain does - at least not yet. Also, separately, Buffalo and Ottawa are two teams paying a premium to get their players to stay. That should be considered.
