Torts nailed it.
I agree. And that was a clean hit.
Now people aren't ready to be hit. I think it's a lost art in how you take hits.
In my time of watching hockey (probably 30+ years now), no one was better at avoiding hits than Nick Lidstrom. And no one was better at being prepared to be hit and often delivering a "reverse hit" than Pavel Datsyuk. Both of those skills are indeed a lost "art" these days.
Spot on OTC
Seider was better last year at hitting and absorbing hits then he is this year.
He's spot on.
And you're right OTC, the best players in the game know how to avoid trouble.it's not like they are lucky - it is a skill.
If it's a skill, can it be taught? And if it can be taught, why aren't teams teaching it in the pre-season?
Not all players can pick up all skills. Otherwise Holmstrom would have skated better, Lebda would have consistently kept the puck in the ozone, and Helm could have finished on his breakaways.
That's the beauty of humans - everyone's different! 😉
Its a skill that only is taught by experience in my opinion. Situational awareness is something that I believe is instinctive that unfortunately is painfully experienced in order to learn from it.
