“The health risks will continue to be the spread of the disease. Bringing in hundreds of people, players, coaches, medical, training, logistics, and other staff to a centralized area creates a problem. There are also locals who may be impacted by restarting. Workers who need to operate the arena and sanitize locker rooms, the Zamboni drivers, hotel and restaurant workers, taxi drivers who may transport players to the arena.
“Players will be coming back from all over the world. Each country has taken different measures to deal with the pandemic, some more restrictive than others. Even in the U.S., states have different approaches. I question how the NHL would ensure a strict quarantine for every player, coach and all the other personnel before training camps restart. And how that quarantine and isolation would continue once the personnel are gathered at a central location. Personnel need to be kept in isolation so they do not become infected and potentially infect others.”
