from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,
- James Reimer is the tennis ball of goaltenders. Back. Forth. Back. Forth. One season great, one season lost, next season we don’t know. In. Out. The difficult determination for management in a contract year: Is this the real Reimer? Has he summoned his inner Devan Dubnyk? You want this to be real for him. You just can’t know that it is.
- How much will the long-term contract with Rogers end up hurting the NHL because the deal was apparently signed in Canadian dollars.
- The Florida Panthers are in first place, just off a terrific winning streak and you can’t find a Jaromir Jagr T-shirt or jersey in that monster-sized mall next to their home rink in Sunrise.
- What happened to Dion Phaneuf, the shooter, when he became a Maple Leaf?
What happened to the kid who scored 20 power-play goals as a rookie taking 240 shots a season, frightening people along the way?
This is Phaneuf’s seventh full season with the Leafs. Heading into Saturday night, he had no power-play goals, even though he leads the team in power- play time played. Worse, he is statistically, one of the least accurate shooters in the NHL, hitting the net just 52.2% of the time he shoots with the man advantage. In fact, Phaneuf is basically the least effective full-time point man in hockey....
