McDAVID RECORDS THIRD STRAIGHT 100-POINT SEASON, SIXTH OF CAREER
Connor McDavid
(42-58—100 in 56 GP) accumulated 100 points in a season for the third time in as many years and sixth time overall (in eight NHL seasons). McDavid became the fourth player in NHL history to be the first 100-point player in at least five seasons, following Wayne Gretzky (9x), Mario Lemieux (6x) and PhilEsposito (6x).

* McDavid became the 16th player in NHL history with at least six 100-point campaigns and matched the most by an active skater, a mark held by 18-season veteran Sidney Crosby.

* McDavid became the fifth player in League history with six or more 100-point seasons before age 27 (age at time of 100th point). The 26-year-old joined Wayne Gretzky (8), Mario Lemieux (7), Dale Hawerchuk (6) and Bobby Orr (6). Sidney Crosby recorded five of his six career 100-point seasons before age 27.

* McDavid became the sixth player in NHL history to record 100 or more points in at least six of his first eight seasons, following Wayne Gretzky (8 of 8), Mario Lemieux (7 of 8), Peter Stastny (7 of 8), Mike Bossy (6 of 8) and Dale Hawerchuk (6 of 8). Of note: McDavid (34-63—97 in 64 GP) was three points shy of 100 – and on pace for 113 points – before the 2019-20 season was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

* McDavid is now both the fastest and second-fastest active player to hit 100 points in a season, reaching the mark within his first 56 games for the second time after requiring only 53 games in 2020-21 (32-68—100). His 53-game benchmark two seasons ago marked the fewest contests to 100 points by any player in the past 26 years (since 1995-96: Mario Lemieux, 38 GP; Jaromir Jagr, 52 GP).

* McDavid became the seventh player in NHL history to hit 100 points within his first 56 games of a season multiple times (also 53 GP in 2020-21), following Wayne Gretzky (12x), Mario Lemieux (8x), Mike Bossy (3x), Phil Esposito (3x), Jari Kurri (2x) and Guy Lafleur (2x).

* McDavid is within range of a 150-point season, which would shatter the highest single-season point total by an active player, a mark currently held by Nikita Kucherov (41-87—128 in 2018-19; 82 GP). Kucherov required 62 games to reach 100 points during that campaign.

* The last player to record 150+ points in a season was Mario Lemieux in 1995-96 (69-92—161 in 70 GP). Overall, only five different players in League history have recorded 150 or more points in a campaign – for a total of 16 such campaigns. Wayne Gretzky (9x; last: 1990-91), Lemieux (4x; last: 1995-96), Bernie Nicholls (1988-89), Steve Yzerman (1988-89) and Phil Esposito (1970-71).

* McDavid became the third player in franchise history to record six or more 100-point seasons with the Oilers, moving past Mark Messier (5) to join Wayne Gretzky (9) and Jari Kurri (6).

* McDavid’s 42 goals marked the most at the time of his 100th point in a season, eclipsing the previous high of 39 set in 2017-18 when he hit the mark with an assist in his 77th contest of the season (one in which he tallied 1-2—3 to finish with 40-62—102 in 77 GP).

McDAVID SET TO JOIN MORE RARE LISTS SHORTLY AFTER HITTING 100-POINT MARK
Connor McDavid
(281-516—797 in 543 GP) reaching 100 points on the season moved him within three of 800 in his NHL career. McDavid’s current scoring rate of 1.79 points-per-game in 2022-23 (42-58—100 in 56 GP) has him on track to hit 800 career points within his next two outings (545 career GP).

* McDavid can become the fifth player in NHL history to record 800 career points in 550 or fewer games, following Wayne Gretzky (352 GP), Mario Lemieux (410 GP), Mike Bossy (525 GP) and Peter Stastny (531 GP).

* McDavid is on track to be the fastest active player to 800 career points – the current mark is held by Sidney Crosby (571 GP). Alex Ovechkin (658 GP), Evgeni Malkin (680 GP), Steven Stamkos (779 GP) and Patrick Kane (786 GP) round out the top five.

* McDavid, 26, would become the ninth player in League history to reach the 800-point mark before age 27 – he would join Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Dale Hawerchuk, Steve Yzerman, Bryan Trottier, Bobby Orr, Denis Savard and Jaromir Jagr. McDavid (26 years, 33 days as of Feb. 15) will likely be the fifth-youngest member of that cohort at the time of his 800th point.

* McDavid reached the 700-point mark via a season-opening hat trick on Oct. 12, 2022. He has played 56 games since, including the contest in which he tallied point 700 (and 701). He can become the eighth player in League history to require 60 games or fewer to go from 700 to 800 career points – and could be the third-fastest ever to make that jump. The seven players to move from 700 to 800 points in 60 games or less: Wayne Gretzky (36 GP), Mario Lemieux (48 GP), Mike Bossy (57 GP), Denis Savard (57 GP), Bobby Orr (58 GP), Pat LaFontaine (59 GP) and Phil Esposito (60 GP).

* The fewest contests McDavid has needed to go from any 100-point milestone to the next is 53 (from 500 on Feb. 17, 2021, to 600 on Nov. 14, 2021). The only other active player who went from one milestone point to another in 60 games or fewer is Alex Ovechkin (60 GP from 400 on March 17, 2009 to 500 on Feb. 4, 2010).

* McDavid also would be the sixth player in NHL history to reach both the 700 and 800-point milestones within the same season – only Doug Gilmour (1992-93), Pat LaFontaine (1992-93), Steve Yzerman (1990-91), Mike Bossy (1983-84) and Guy Lafleur (1978-79) have done so.

* McDavid would be the fifth player to record 800 or more points with the Oilers, after Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, Mark Messier and Glenn Anderson.

* McDavid’s 797 career points are by far the most in the NHL since 2015-16 when he entered the League. McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who ranks second in points in that span, have factored on the same goal 351 times, the highest such total by two teammates since the start of the 2015-16 season.

* McDavid is on pace to reach 1,000 points in his 681st career game – likely before the halfway mark of the 2024-25 season and before his 28th birthday. Wayne Gretzky (424 GP), Mario Lemieux (513 GP), Mike Bossy (656 GP) and Peter Stastny (682 GP) are the only players in NHL history to accumulate 1,000 points in 715 games or fewer. Only Gretzky, Lemieux, Steve Yzerman and Dale Hawerchuk hit the mark before age 28. The fewest games required by an active skater to hit 1,000 points is held by Sidney Crosby (757 GP), who also as the youngest (age 29).
