Will The Edmonton Oilers Finally Move Nail Yakupov?

Bob McKenzie tweets,

Regarding Yakupov to CHI trade rumors, my understanding as follows: CHI has had talks with EDM on Yak, could still have interest in him...

...but there is no imminent deal. CHI, at this moment, still looking at their kids to fill holes, but maybe that changes at some point.

Both gentlemen have more on this topic at their Twitter page....

And no one else can get this done?

Really, this is like the Patriots in the NFL. They can pluck Randy Moss for a 5th rounder and get the most out of him.

Chicago (and Pittsburgh a few years ago) play the system, trade picks/nobodies for decent players and get the team to retain cap. If they do it at the trade deadline, they get a discounted salary cap hit. At least Chicago has stopped using Florida as their salary dump team.

So…no one else can make these deals?

Well, in fairness chi hasn’t made the deal.

But they also have room for players like this because they aren’t really heavy on the prospects,

If I were an NHL GM, I wouldn’t even take a call from Stan Bowman unless he sent me a 5th round pick first.

Depending on the AHLers Chicago is offering, it could be a decent deal.

...except, you know, there’s that whole mess about salary retention. Chicago can ask for it all they want, but unless it’s a deal at the deadline, I’m not giving Chicago the luxury of holding on to salary.

And also they didn’t go out and sign a bunch of free agents to create a logjam among forwards.
