Video- Jeff Carter/Igor Shesterkin Collision

The Sportsnet panel including Kelly Hrudey put the blame on Jeff Carter.

Whar do you say?

Ehhh…

Looks like Shesterkin is setting a bit of a pick
for Fox, but it’s not like he has to dive against the side
of his net to try and completely avoid Carter.
Of course Carter wants to cut the sharpest angle and go right by
the post. But it’s not like Shesterkin went out behind his net to try
and block Carter. He has a right to play the puck and to his space and
to get back to his crease.

Do I think Carter has any qualms about hitting NYR’s star goalie
when it’s sort of 50/50? Of course not. Any excuse and he’s going to.
But Shesterkin also made a little easier for Carter to make that excuse
by taking a little bit wider route to his crease.

Compared to the Bruins suspendable freakouts at opposing
goalies, this was more on both players.

Meanwhile, Nashville looks like they’re icing
virtually the toughest lineup possible.

1:1 as of now, but if the Preds get desperate,
how long before someone crashes into Darcy Kuemper?

See Jeff Carter hits the goalie, the NYR go ape bleep and get after him. See how this is done every other team that is playing vs. Marchant?

Shesterkin is probably guilty of interference and embellishment, if you want to get weird. But there wasn’t much either way, so good no call.

Just an unfortunate collision I think. That was a Mike Smith-esque sales job after the hit though.

Neymar-caliber performance by Shesterkin there.  Still, it ain’t cool to hit a goalie; swift justice should be the norm there.

You don’t touch the goalie. It’s the unwritten rule of hockey.

You hit the goalie you better be prepared for that paddle to be thrust upward between your legs and be sprawling on the ice for a couple of minutes afterwards. It might not be done in the playoffs, but rest assure the next time you play that goalie in the regular season and are standing in front of the net with your body facing the blue line you are done for—even if you switch teams.

So it doesn’t even need to be swift justice or a penalty call—just know it’s coming like that pitch in the back after an epic bat toss. It may take months, but it’s coming.
