That’s quite a fall from the future of a franchise to waiver wire drop out. At least he snagged a couple cups on the way down.

Hate to see that. Really hate it. Richards has always been one of my favourite players. I hope hevcan find a new place to play and rejuvenate his career.

Seems like he’d be a good addition for a team like Winnipeg if they’re willing to bite the bullet on the contract.

Richards has a $5.750 mil cap hit and has 3 years remaining on his deal.
It’s even worse than that, George. According to NHL Numbers, he has five more years left after this season – with actual salaries of $6.0M, $5.5M, $5.5M, $3.0M and $3.0M (in addition to what’s remaining of the $7.0M owed his this year).

I agree with NHLJeff. Winnipeg has the cap room and would give them some real depth going into the playoffs, with centers Frolik & Slater about to be UFA they could use Richards. Some of the small market Canadian teams have to over pay to get players. He would be a good number three center going into playoffs.

Damn! It was a risky gamble not using a compliance buyout on him last year. Not a good ROI on him (or Brown)...
