James Wisniewkski Bought-Out By The Carolina Hurricanes

RALEIGH, NC – Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has bought out the remainder of defenseman James Wisniewski’s contract.

Wisniewski, 32, appeared in one game with the Hurricanes in 2015-16, suffering a torn ACL in his left knee during the first period of the team’s opener against the Nashville Predators. He has appeared in 552 career NHL games with Chicago, Anaheim, the New York Islanders, Montreal, Columbus and Carolina, totaling 274 points (53g, 221a).

Meow, it seems like they could have retained half of his salary and traded him for a late round pick. I guess his value has dropped significantly.

IIRC he (much like Ryan Kesler) hates the Wings.

Also he’s like, completely broken.

I’m not sure where he could end up.  His stock shot up so quickly, and seems to have dropped just as quickly.

Yep, not of the opinion it would be a heartwarming homecoming, but if we are looking for cheap reclamation projects, he does have a right hand shot and ran the PP as well.

He’s averaged 39 games a season in his 14 seasons.  He’ll land somewhere, but I hope its not Detroit… they’ve had enough injury prone players in the past.

For those that don’t remember, he played all of 47 seconds for the Canes, messed up his knee and out for the year.

He just tweeted saying looking forward to next season, been working out.

“For me, knowing Detroit’s history they don’t really pay the market value for a defenseman or any player,’’ Wisniewski said on NHL Live. “So I didn’t think that was going to be a fit for myself.

I recall when the Wings couldn’t buy out Mikael Samuelsson due to his shoulder injury. What is the difference in this case?

I don’t understand how a team that does not spend to the cap max ends up buying out players.  Why not just keep the guy instead of paying money for him not to play?

They want some other team to waste their cap space too.

He’d have to come with his hat in his hand begging for a crust of bread.  If he hadn’t snubbed us in 2011 we might not be in this mess in the first place.

He’s one of the biggest anti Red Wing tool bags out there, along side Kesler. And word on the street they’re both toolbags in real life too.

Columbus was pretty close to the cap hence the need to buy out players to sign Jones and any other adds

And no to wiz…..just no.

He’s a first pairing guy.  In the KHL.  In the EIHL.
