During the Dallas Stars' 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers, as Yahoo Sports' Greg Wyshynski noted, Dallas Stars forward Ryan Garbutt...Oh hell, you know how this goes. Garbutt plus opposing player, this time Oilers forward Taylor Hall, equals knee-on-knee hit. Hall was okay, but still, this hit can be diagrammed with a s-u-s-p-e-n-s-i-o-n on the telestrator:

Sit him for 10 games, and I bet he won’t do it again.

I think it definitely deserves a look by the league, simply because it was knee-on-knee, but I didn’t really see any extension or intent in that hit. Garbutt had a wide stance going into the hit and didn’t really change or extend his knee any. He kept the course he was on. Again, it’s still a potential suspension because you really ought to avoid a hit when you know it’s going to be at the knees like that.

League looked at the hit, no supplementary discipline.

Now John Shannon tweets,
Hearing that reports of no supp. discipline for Garbutt for knee on Taylor Hall are premature. League still looking at it
