Afternoon Line- Sidney Crosby On Visiting The White House On Tuesday

“From my side of things, there’s absolutely no politics involved, hopefully it stays that way.

“It’s a visit that we’ve done in the past and it’s been a good experience but it’s not about politics that’s for sure.”

-Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins on their visit to The White House on Tuesday.  Sportsnet has more.

He can say non political all he wants but Trump can’t help himself and STFU so it will be.

Don’t see the point in involving Canadian citizens in American politics

Maybe a google search of “Trump NAFTA” will change his Canadian mind.

I can genuinely understand what Crosby is trying to get at here, but he’s missing the simple fact that the White House is a political institution. It doesn’t matter if you’re Canadian.

In an article about the VGK, Damien Cox of the Toronto Star added this…

Goodness, even Sidney Crosby can err badly. Calling his team’s upcoming White House visit “not about politics” on Monday, the day after U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence’s clumsy NFL stunt demonstrated that sports are being tethered to politics more than ever before, Crosby has inadvertently aligned himself with rich, sheltered, white male privilege. Really unfortunate.

In the WWF, he would be accused of having no testicular fortitude. Just like the organization.

Honestly, I’m surprised Trump is willing to meet with an immigrant taking a job away from Americans.  Crosby is using his fortune earned in America, taking it to Canada, and providing a hockey camp for foreigners.  Can’t sit well in the White House.  Although I bet Trump let Malkin and Gonchar plan the events for the visit.

Maybe Sid and Id can argue about whether the Penguins cup celebration parade was bigger than inauguration day.

Alternative facts say Nashville won, actually.  The penguins-biased media lies all the time about the scores.

The comparisons to Trump for Crosby are uncanny:

1) has one black guy on team - check
2) doesn’t understand the american political system - check
3) whines about unfair treatment - check
4) won something nobody thought he deserved - check
5) generally regarded as a terrible ambassador of conduct for the position he’s in - check
6) successful despite being absolutely abhorred by everyone but his base supporters - check
7) receives special treatment the likes of which have never been seen by others - check
8) white - check
9) successful due to loan from dad - check
10) doesn’t play the right way - check
