Afternoon Line- Pat Morris

"Put it this way, three of the final four teams left this year are the same as last year: the [New York] Islanders, [Tampa Bay] Lightning and Golden Knights. The fourth team: whichever team Corey Perry is on. Last year it was Dallas; this year it's Montreal. That's the common thread.

"It's no coincidence. The guy's a winner."

-Pat Morris, agent for Corey Perry.  Mike Zeisberger of NHL.com has more on Perry.

Well, Pat, not really.

First time is an accident.
Second time is a coincidence.
Third time is a pattern.

Funny story, I read this and asked myself “Who is Pat Morris? Probably his agent.” then I see it’s his agent.

Alrighty then.

I don’t like Perry and how he’s played over his career
of course. And sure it’s a silly hyperbolic statement by an agent
with a soon to be UFA client getting past the age most get offers.

But he’s not wrong in the sense that Perry finds pucks around the net, knows where they’re likely to pop out, how to get position, and has the composure to deposit them for big playoff goals. He’s still a factor and an extra veteran guy who can sneak below the radar and make a difference. I’m sure he’ll get another contract from a fa like Montreal or Dallas last time that’s looking for some gritty play around the net in big games
