"You got to give Mrazek credit," Babcock said. "For the third goalie he's gone (8-1). Maybe he doesn't want to be the third goalie."
Howard could return as early as the next game, Wednesday at Pittsburgh, and Jonas Gustavsson is healthy. Chances are the Red Wings will reassign Mrazek to the Grand Rapids Griffins rather than keep him around to play sporadically, but it sounds like it might at least warrant a discussion.
"It's the NHL, the best guys are supposed to play," Babcock said. "So we got to figure that out."
I don't really see any other option but to send Mrazek back to Grand Rapids.
Some will think Jonas Gustavsson (ufa on July 1st) is trade bait but is there a team really in need of his services at this point in the season?
Maybe the New York Rangers but I would think some teams would be hesitant to trade for Gustavsson and his history of injuries.
