from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,
"The season is on the line right now," defenseman Moritz Seider said in a somber Wings locker room Thursday after a 4-0 loss in Carolina. "We can't find ways to dominate games and be a force but luckily other teams are missing out on the opportunity (to take advantage) and it's still up to us.
"We have to wake up pretty soon and just beat a team that we definitely can beat, that everyone saw in the past in us this year.
"Then, hopefully, we'll be on the right track."...
"A great opportunity," Seider said of Saturday's game. "An early game in Florida, against a team that is always tough to play against. But we've shown we can beat them in their rink (earlier this season). That would be a big step in the right direction if we got two points out of that building."
There was a sense of disappointment after Thursday's loss, a game Carolina dominated for long stretches. But the Wings aren't necessarily concerned, believing there is plenty of time to correct what is ailing them.
"Keep doing what we're doing. We just have to find a way to the back of the net," said defenseman Ben Chiarot, noting the offensive drought. "We're playing well defensively."...
"We have to get more pucks to the net," Lalonde said. "This time of year, with the way teams are defending, you're not going to get much on the rush. You have to create from the offensive zone and gets pucks to the net.
"When they (goalies) are feeling it and seeing it, you have to be harder around them. We've struggled against Bob (Florida goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky) and we'll see him Saturday and it'll be the same thing. We have to get to that (hard) area a little more, a little bit more volume of shots."

chiarot thinks they're playing well defensively. shocking.
They did play well defensively to the NYI, Nashville, and Washington...but they lost 2 of those 3.
Against Carolina it was 2 forwards (Ras and Fabbri) and a goalie that were responsible for 3 of the 4 goals against.
But it s playoff hockey time--there are no moral victories.
Remember Saturday's game in Sunrise is a 12:30pm start. Watch on BSDX and the NHL Network.
I expect more of the same, unfortunately.🤔
This team can either play defense or offense but not both at the same time right now. That's on the coaches. Time for them to fix things or find new jobs.
Petry, Copp and Holl are all hot garbage hockey players with terrible long contracts. That's on SY. SY has made some great moves since coming in but these are clear misses who are now actively hurting the wings on a daily basis. Time to waive them, buy them out, put them all in the press box, trade them in the off season, whatever. It's hard to watch at this point.
Copp isn't being used effectively. But he doesn't look comfortable on the line he is on.
Petry is getting blamed for obvious forward mistakes like last game when someone was blaming him for all 4 goals (when Ras and Fabbri were the real culprits for 2 of them). Not saying he's been great, but too often forwards are missing defensive assignments and d-men have to try to cover two forwards and look out of position on the eventual goal scorer.
Holl is barely playing and has no chemistry with a constantly out of defensive position Ghost. Ghost also has been coughing up the puck a lot more than before.
I am sorry but Seider looks awful. Go back and watch the goals highlights from Carolina and look at the constant one handed poke checks instead of playing the body. It looks like Seider has hit the wall from overuse.
The Wings biggest problem is that they don't have a goalie bailing them out like Lyon did for a month and they haven't been able to play from behind like they did in the first half. That is what happens when playoffs get closer--teams bare down and play shutdown hockey.
It also looks like the Wings are getting out coached as Blash is constantly trying to match up defenders against lines and the result is guys over-exerted and not skating but gliding. The gliding means they are off on passes to/from and I don't see a offensive strategy except cycle along the boards until someone is out of position and give the puck away.

The sad part, dca, is your mistake is awfully close to the truth. Listening to Lalonde these days really is beginning to feel a lot like listening to Blashill. Lots of platitudes but no real solutions.
"It's hard to watch at this point."
Amen.
