Two late goals by the Capitals in the second period has Washington up 2-0 headed to the third period. The last goal for the Caps with nine seconds left really hurt.
In the third the Wings scored with a second left. Capitals win 2-1.

Not much to say indeed. Caps were 0-4-2 in the last 6, I felt confident before the game actually. With Islanders beating the Rangers, unfortunately we are done imo.
The Wings out shot the capitals but many of their shots were one and done or the Wings had zero net front presence. Bring back Holmstrom!!!
The other thing I noticed at the end of the second and into the third period the Wings were playing a 1-1-3 or 1-2-2. SMH. And they kept leaving Oshie and OV wide open.. ugh.

they're not done, but this was a bad loss. these guys are looking like shoestring down to the wire. every guy under 26...learn from this season. i still think they brought it, but as almost all of us have said, moral victories aren't worth 2 points this time of year.

The season is over. It is better. If they made the playoffs, many would be upset of not getting past the first round.
Good effort, aside from the last 5 minutes of the 2nd, just had no finish and not enough traffic in front of the net. There's still a chance but they need to beat Pittsburgh and get a result against the Leafs.
Maybe they should try shooting at corners next game...
Just back from the Rag$/Isles game --- just saw the highlights of the Red Wings/Caps game on nhl.com Damn, I was cheering for you guys. Let me say this - playing the Rag$ or the Canes will NOT BE FUN for whomever has that opportunity. But it would be good to see Detroit in the playoffs again. You have two scheduled wins vs. Montreal coming up. Just gotta stick it to Toronto! And you get PIT next - and I will totally be cheering for you guys. Washington has BOS and TB on their docket. Pit has NSH, BOS, DET and NYI Isles have Montreal, Rag$ at MSG , NJD in Newark and Cindy Crosby on the Island. This race is not over for any of DET/WAS/NYI/PIT.
Key thing is to win one of your 'scheduled losses" and win the games you should.
Isles won the first period - then were completely outclassed by a more talented Rag$ team. The Rag$ scored two PP goals - It was amazing. That said - the Isles WON! There will be a very interesting game on Saturday. Varlamov was fantastic again. He is in the zone.
Back to the Wings - I think if you beat PIT in regulation on THU - you have a decent path to the playoffs. It's anyone's game - but starting now - Detroit has to go out and take it.
We played the hell out of that game. It was in the top 5 games I've seen us play this season. We just got beat by the goalie, despite SEVERAL cherry opportunities and Ovie got into his office real quick once. That's it. Good team play and more of that next time please.

Lalonde stop pointing out the mistakes of the Yutes. Early on, you should have scratched some of those players.
Can we give the NHL refs a class on fundamental body structure? They didn't call a penalty on the high stick to Copp because "there was no injury", presumably because there was no blood. But from my 5th grade anatomy class, a broken orbital bone sounds like it should qualify.
Plus a hit in the head is not a high stick? If he wasn't wearing a helmet he would have been injured on the ice for sure. Swing Away!
