Quick Recap- Detroit/Montreal

04/15/2024 at 9:50pm EDT

It was 4-2 after 40 minutes but the Wings scored twice in the 3rd to force overtime.

Lucas Raymond wins it in OT.

Teams Stats

Below are the Detroit

Like I said last game or the last week or the last six months, they have to work so hard to overcome their mistakes. Thats a hard way to win. Exhausting.

Shanny_Fan

Wow! Can't just do it the easy way

Chet

i can't say it's all that fun to support a team that has to be cardiac kids against montreal after being used to that way back 90s-00s dominance, but as i said, management promised meaningful games into april and they delivered. it could still blow up in their faces, but who doesn't think they've taken a step?

no matter what happens in game 82, i love this win for these guys. they had rough patches and just never gave up this season. it's worth noting there's a lot of character here. whatever happens, you can't say these guys have any quit in them.

damndogrevenge

The Octopie on the ice woke them up! Raymond and Cat must like calamari!

Wow, what a game! I am still BUZZING from that one! GoWings!!!

rwbilldamndogrevenge

Yeah, I was actually thinking the same thing, it kind of gave a break in the middle of the third period.

VPalmer

Gost jump was something:) Boston's "effort" was maddening tonight

Chet

just nice to see these guys with a legit shot at the postseason, and feeling it. usually by this time of year, they're already booking vacays and tee times.

rwbill

Its comical to see some of the -fans- who have been saying for four weeks -stick a fork in them we all know the season is over-. If they keep repeating it eventually theyll be right.

HippyDave

Allright, Im never talking smack about Raymond again.  Pay the man!

Lalonde credits the octopi break for allowing the Wings to get a breather.

I was shaking my head for those being thrown on the ice because it wasn't the right time. Funny how that worked out.

They probably shouldn't say anything about it benefiting the team or the NHL will find a way to give bench minors when they are on the ice

from Sean Shapiro of Shap Shots,

Give Raymond his flowers, he deserves them. Hes also going to get a massive contract from Steve Yzerman sometime soon as well.

But its also a moment and a game, where Shayne Gostisbeheres impact cant be understated.

With Detroit chasing the game in the third period Gostisbehere played practically every other shift in the final ten minutes of regulation and in overtime. Gostisbehere played half of the final ten minutes, and in overtime he and Moritz Seider were the only defenders to see the ice.

Gostisbehere had three assists in that ice time, he also rang a shot in regulation off the post and drilled the crossbar in overtime.

Before Raymonds tying goal, Gostisbehere made a leaping save at the blue line and then still kept possession and made a clean dish under heavy pressure to David Perron.

Great game.  They didn't quit.  Good thing because everybody else who mattered won; NYI, WAS, and PIT.  That makes tomorrow a must win plus we need help.  LGRW!!

TreKronor

I think Kane has shown Raymond a lot. The patience he showed in the tieing goal... Rediculous.

In ot Larkin taking his time instead of attempting a break away was incredibly smart. Ans that pass was smooth as butter. Raymond's shot was sick.

Really thought Ghost had an excellent game. That keepin was nuts.

VPalmerTreKronor

Raymond's rush down the ice at the end of a long shift just to receive that pass was impressive

OlderThanChelios

Compher's comment after the game about Raymond was pretty cool: "He's grown up 10 years in the last seven days." It really seems to have begun when Larkin was injured and Raymond took it upon himself to fill the void.

His performance in the past month is going to cost Yzerman another mil (or even two) on Raymond's contract this summer. But it should be worth every penny he has to give him.

rwbill

I very well may have this wrong, would not be the first time. If flyers beat capitals tomorrow in regulation and Detroit loses, they would have to go to the sixth tiebreaker to put Philadelphia in the playoffs.
Points, tied 89.

Regulation Wins, tied 31

Regulation +OT wins, tied 35

Total Wins, tied 39

Head to head points, tied 2 ( first game in philly, extra home game, not counted )

Goal Differential, Flyers win, -25 to Caps -38.

this is bizarre but so is this playoff race. Did i overlook something, other than the Wings scoring 3 goals in the last 5 minutes tomorrow and winning in ot.

EthrDemonrwbill

A Flyers win + Wings loss would leave the door open for the Penguins to pass everybody with a win Wednesday
