Season series: The Detroit Red Wings are trying to sweep the series against the Nashville Predators after a victory in the first game at Joe Louis Arena. Forward Tomas Tatar had two goals and an assist for the Red Wings, who scored three goals on four shots to drive Predators goalie Carter Hutton from the net.

Red Wings team scope: Detroit is finishing a challenging portion of its schedule. This is the Red Wings' 17th road game in the past 23. They are 10-5-1 and cap the stretch against Nashville, the only other team in the NHL that has not lost consecutive games in regulation. Detroit is 3-1-1 on this road trip, which includes victories at the Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars and San Jose Sharks. Defenseman Brendan Smith doesn't have a fractured arm, just a bruise, after being slew-footed by San Jose Sharks forward Logan Couture. Defenseman Kyle Quincey (bone chips in ankle) is ready to play if Smith cannot. Forward Henrik Zetterberg (head) will miss a fourth straight game. Backup goalie Jonas Gustavsson will start.

Predators team scope: Nashville is 2-2-1 in its past five games after winning six in a row from Feb. 7-17. The Predators are trying to win the Presidents' Trophy for the first time. "You want to be the best team in the League," forward Eric Nystrom told The Tennessean. "That's a goal every single year, so the Presidents' Trophy is important. That's a realistic goal for us right now with the position that we're in. To win anything is the reason we play the game, and that's another feather in the hat." Goalie Pekka Rinne, who was injured and missed the first game against Detroit, will start. The Predators did not practice Friday.
