Season series: Gustav Nyquist and Pavel Datsyk each had two goals and one assist to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-2 win against the Los Angeles Kings at Joe Louis Arena on Oct. 31. Detroit scored four of its five goals in the first period.
Red Wings team scope: It's the fourth of a six-game road trip for the Red Wings, who suffered a 4-3 shootout loss at the Anaheim Ducks on Monday. Detroit is 2-0-1 on the trip thus far and is three points behind the Tampa Bay Lightning for second place in the Atlantic Division. "I thought we controlled the game," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "The puck found a way in our net a couple times. I didn't like it, but I thought our team played good and played hard. Our kids were good." Goalie Jonas Gustavsson is expected to start Tuesday for the first time since Nov. 5. He made two saves in relief of Jimmy Howard in a 7-6 overtime win at the Dallas Stars on Saturday. Gustavsson missed three months because of a shoulder injury.
Kings team scope: Los Angeles will be seeking its eighth straight win on Tuesday. Some of the Kings' recent success can be attributed to goalie Jonathan Quick, who was named the NHL's First Star on Monday for his efforts over the past week. Quick went 3-0-0 with a 1.33 goals-against average and .959 save percentage. "If I have to pick a goaltender in a big game, I want Jonathan Quick," coach Darryl Sutter told LA Kings Insider, "and we're playing big games, so I want Jonathan Quick." Los Angeles is expected to be without defenseman Alec Martinez, who has missed the past six games because of an upper-body injury.
